While it’s true that no one is less intelligent for liking different types of music when compared to another person with a different taste, this only works to a certain extent. Come on, ICP? Yes and, as fucking elitist as it is to say it, death metal isnt made for your average listener. And lyrics mean shit? So, if the singer was really shitty, on an american idol reject level, but you could understand him, that automatically makes it more intelligent?

Maybe it’s because you’ve listened to that style enough to become inept at understanding screams and grunts. In your eyes, yes. Others may disagree. Whether or not music is good is subjective. Many people think that country music is good, but I don’t. That doesn’t mean I’m right or they’re right. It’s an opinion.

If he’s singing about raping his grandmother with monkey wrench, its still more intelligent music?
Besides, death metal is non commercial music, by nature. The music that makes it on the radio is usually the 10% of the genre that has sold their souls to a record company and cares more about cash than actually making good music. I would rather listen to “unintelligent” music than some shitty garbage people listen to because its on MTV.
