Yep it was called Project Reality, which started back in NIntendo in like 1989-1991 timeframe. It was basically the idea to create a console that could make realistic graphics, or for that time period 3D. This also remember is when Sony was a partner with Nintendo, and where their first console to use 3D, was being created called the Playstation haha. Yes Playstation was a console by Nintendo, later taken by Sony in a bullshit case.

So to answer P. Moore’s question, simply no haha. If there’s any merit give it to Nintendo or Sega or Atari haha.

theres tons of those consoles with 2d graphics and then as soon as sony comes along we have gone from 2d to 3d and soon to be 4d and we have almost photo realistic graphics on some games.

i say sony deserves a big pat on the back

Actually the Sega Saturn was the first console to use 3D. And many considered N64 to have the first real 3D in console gaming. Just giving you the facts haha.

Although there may have been something else to do 3D before Saturn but wasn’t PS1 haha.

yeah i know it wasnt the first but before sony there was 3d graphics, except no one really made anything 3d cus there was no preassure to. but then when sony anounced their console with cd and 3d graphics that was a much bigger step than going from 2d graphics to slightly better 2d graphics.

without sony we probably would still be playing mainly 2d games.

Wrong read above post. Called Project Reality, in internal Nintendo development.

Yep in 1983 the video game market had crashed in America. Note that at that time the European market wasn’t fully developed meaning Japan and America where the markets to go after, which at the time were about the same size in market share. But the Ataris and others refused to make any advancements in gaming and really you saw just the repetive crap in hardware and software for 3-4 years and it eventually ended up crashing.

At that same time Nintenod had just released the Famicon, or NES, in Japan. They were very skeptical at releasing it anywhere else after they saw what happened. But by that time Famicon was becoming a huge cultural phenomenon which game them enough money to be able to expand further. Thus in 1985 they released the famicon, or known here as the NES, in America, and it took off. Mainly because Super Mario Bros was so revolutionary that it revitalized gaming. Not to mention packing it in was a great idea. Reminds you of Wii Sports and Wii eh.

Thus the American market took off and expanded it more than any other console to date, even over PS2 gentlemen. It eventually released in Europe/Other and made the first real leadway in the market, but it wasn’t til PS1 and especially GB until that market took off. But yes NES, and smart marketing and timing by Nintendo definetly saved the market here in America.

Sony wasn’t even in the industry in 1983 haha. And Sony didn’t hurt the market with their playstation. Really it helped increase it especially in Europe/Other, although many could say that just came with timing, as early 1990’s saw the end of a lot of shit there.
