Recently Jagex, the creators of the online MMORPG Runescape, have finally decided to get rid of Real World Traders(RWT). RWT would harvest gold in the game using macros, hacking, or scamming, which all drag down the economy. They would then sell the gold on the internet giving people unfair advantages.read more
First they created the grand exchange.
This is a place where you can put your items to sell or put an offer for an item to buy and while playing the game you would be notified of this trade. But, Jagex created a 5% range of the item’s price that it could be bought or sold. This stopped Merchanting but also stopped scammers.
Second of all they changed the duel arena.
This was a good place to stake on a single fight and RWT would use it to transfer money. They created a 3,000 gp limit (which is close to nothing) on a single stake. And you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can stake again. This hindered the RWT, but angered many people who enjoyed high stakes, and made many quit.
Third they created notifications for the party room.
The party room is a room where balloons dropped and items that players put in a chest were in the balloons. You would step on a balloon and it would pop and might have an item. They made it so every player would be notified if an item is dropped. This effected few players and RWT.
Fourth they took out unbalanced trades.
Now anything within a 3,000 gp unbalance it will not let you trade. This makes it hard to mercahnt (buy low and sell for high), and hinders you from lending items to friends, or giving worthless items away. This greatly effected RWT.
Fifth and probably the most extreme they took out the danger of the wilderness.
Previously in a game, very north was a mass land called the Wilderness. The farther you went into the wilderness the more dangerous it became because there was a wider range of levels that could attack you. You can not even attack in the wilderness anymore. They also made a 3 minute delay on the items that would be dropped and any item with a value greater than 3,000 gp would NEVER show up. This upset MANY players and has probably cost over 50% of runescape’s population. RWT would go into the wilderness to die to transfer money to a person. This has greatly decreased if not stopped RWT.
These updates have stopped RWT and Macroing for now and also lost many members. This has also created a better environment for new players. So this is the question. Is this the end or new beginning of runescape?
Fixes
1. The Grand exchange
They plan on assigning a team of workers to keep prices at the market value of players, using forums and people selling through trading. Also some other minor updates will be added.
2.The Duel Arena
They plan on making the amount you can stake proportional to the amount of quest points you have, this is said to be around 30,000gp.
3.Party Room
Players want bankers to stop spamming Xm party coming up. No fix is planned.
4.Unbalanced Trading
They plan on making the amount of money you can gain or lose in a trade proportional to the amount of quest points you have, this is said to be around 30,000gp. Since this has been in place it is hard for lootsharers( tries to equally distribute items gained from combat) to share loot, because if they get a high priced item they can not give the money because of the trade cap. They plan on converting the item into gold to give to the members. They also are making a lend item feature since you can not lend items due to the unbalanced trade rule
5.The Wild
They are planning on making more minigames that resembled the wilderness.

ex pmod Guest | well with this update they have made it better for new players
but this also drives all current players away and also
drive any older (age wise) players away. a game that holds your hand through everything doesn’t appeal to older audiences.
only the young kids will enjoy this play style wich means
alot less paying members. this is the worse thing jagex could do it is the death nail in the runescape coffin. i always thought runescape would fall to other better mmorpg or
there palyers would age out of the game buti never thought
that jagex would be the ones that would put the game in its grave.

zxjn Guest | Jagex is about to learn that you can’t kill the patient to cure the disease. Even if you plan to stay in the game, I encourage everyone to end their membership as of now, and send a message to Jagex.

Super Smart Guy Guest | This is how I see it:
Jagex started a nice little game of kickball against the Cheating Community of RS. Imagine this as like 5 year old children, it was all going fair the auto’s would kick and get somewhere, and Jagex would kick and it would be about tied. The Auto’s started getting good, and Jagex started losing instead of being better, sucking it up, and trying to create better auto detection, they took the ball away from the game and quit. They’re to childish to suck it up and keep playing the game, and whenever they feel that they’re losing they take the ball away like sore losser’s

if you read the devolpment diary every time they made there macro detection better macroers would make a program that would be less detectable, and if macroers continued at this rate they would get to a point where the macros would be un-detectable and they would flood the game so this update would have to happen sooner or later

lkji5 Guest | I still play
i dont pk or stake but did merchant occasionally
what i hate the most is grand exchange, which completlty killed the game and forums.
In the grand exchange you cant sell unless its market min, and cant buy unless its max!

nakoma_jngx Guest | i like the kick ball comparassion. but yea i can see why alot of people quit with the wild that was a major function of the game that attracted alot of players. i personally dont pk but what made me quit was the trade capping. i mean i didn’t care about the duel arena (bugged me a bit) then the grand exchange (bugged me alot but i got over it because i could still choose to sell off ge for my own price and on forums) then they took away pking and that made me angry because thats fun for alot of people then the trade cap that was the last straw. i cancelled my membership if they fix the game ill switch back to membership payments.
as far as i see it in jagex’s greed to keep people from making money from their game they ruined it for the players so they loose more revenue from loosing a costumer base then they do from paying the 40 dollar fee for some stolen credit card.the amount of members quiting greatly out ways the gold farmers. if jagex was smart they would have asked the players what they wanted to do about it or not cared at all. other games like wow have the same problem but instead of being greedy they just dont care.
who ever told them to put in this update obviously does not play the game itself. i think there also might be something bigger going on here like jagex being payed to kill itself off or maybe its a christmas joke who knows. i just cant understand how a company could make such an idodic move with out ANY testing what so ever. as far as things go i will use my money on something worth more of my time.
