TP is my hero because she knows her facts and is arguing a valid case, despite our views of the importance of climate change being completely opposing (AGW is the issue; everything else is secondary).
Hey Drum,
I got mad at the Pain for kind of telling me my work in Africa wasn’t worth shit(not in those words, but I just couldn’t help but get a little miffed).
Anyway, I guess I pushed all the wrong buttons 'cause he decided to leave. I tried to make it up, but no dice.
Anyway, my views on the importance of climate change aren’t opposing, I just take a different view of how to “fight it”.
I’m the kind of person that looks at the root causes of a lot of things.
Also, because I’m concerned about these issues (being those of environmental and social justice), I find it difficult to decide which issue to be concerned about and how I’m going take those issues and values and live my life.
When I say that Global Warming isn’t my main “concern”, its just that personally, it probably wont be something I fight about (politically or socially or whatever).
Instead my focus is on the idea of sustainability and all that that encompasses (from my point of view anyway).
Which, with my ideals tackles global warming regardless.
For me, global warming is not the issue, it is the product of the main issues. Overconsumption being one of them.
I guess my point is, that I don’t think only tackling excess greenhouse gases is the biggest concern...I think its that among other things.
Haha, sorry for the long explanation, and I’ve got to get back to writing this paper.

That’s an interesting way of looking at it, for sure.
I have to say though, I don’t think social inequality should be the biggest of our worries. As I said before, AGW should be our top priority.
Don’t get me wrong; I believe the third world should have just the same chances as us in terms of trade and that kind of thing. I just think we should leave them to do their own thing, as ultimately, any efforts to solve social justice issues are, in the long term, irrelevant. The third world is uttely, utterly fucked, with regards to Climate Change.
Our energy could be better spent protecting ourselves, researching mitigation and invested in renewable energy. The world is going to suffer complete chaos at the hands of AGW.
This is all just my opinion of course, and I have massive respect for your work.
Your point about the deep-rooted causes of AGW by overconsumption and various other things is also a very valid one. But, I really can’t see any way that society is going to move away from consumerism. Certainly not anywhere near as fast as it should, or more importantly; needs to. I think mitigation is probably the best tactic right now. We need to switch to a totally sustainable lifestyle, for sure, but we’ve already done so much damage that’ll continue impacting us in decades to come that we need to look at sequestering carbon.
If we got sequestration down to a fine art, then that’d potentially give us time to ween ourselves off consumerism. But I can’t see it happening. We should batton down the hatches and protect ourselves as much as we can.
It’s every nation for themselves, I’m afraid. I honestly believe that AGW is now a matter of survival.

I don’t give a fuck.. The reason? I don’t believe in global warming per-say. I know the world is heating up, but is it the fault of man? Hell no. It’s happened before several thousand years ago and it’ll happen again thousands of years in the future. The planet goes through cycles, it heats up and it cools down. The O-Zone layers depletes and the planet rebuilds it. It’s a natural part of this planet’s life. Even if we “went green” on everything our planet will continue to heat up and we’ll eventually encounter another ice age from global climate shift. Man survived it once, mankind will survive it again. The only thing humans are doing is contributing to what was already happening.
That’s my view on it at least.
Hell.. I’ll go green and use an ethanol fueled car, I might even look into alternative energy sources, because despite whether or not I’ll make a difference it’ll make me feel like I’m doing something. But only as long as it doesn’t cost me more money.
