Have you guys even played Bioshock? That game is fucking amazing. Sure there’s no multiplayer but that’s not how they were basing the awards. Multiplayer has been around for ages, no innovation there. What Bioshock did was create an amazing world with a great story with perfect story telling. The world was so convincing and perfectly realized. I can safely say that Bioshock is one of my favorite games of all time because of story. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE Halo 3, but upon finishing that game there wasn’t that same satisfaction you get when you play through an amazing story.
Not only was the story great but also the combat. Does Halo have Telekinesis, Pyrokinesis, Freezing abilities and a bunch other powers? No. The combat in Bioshock was so much more varied and exciting because of the many powers you could use. Not to mention how amazingly fun it was to set up a huge trap for Big Daddys and totally fuck them up.
Halo was great, but it was nothing new. Bungie added some amazing things to the 3rd installment of Halo, from saved movies to forge. At the end of the day Halo is still the game it was from 2001 with added features every 3 years. Bioshock is a new IP that succeeded in grabbing an audience. Do you know how hard that is? I guess this year is a bad example because of great games like Mass Effect and to a lesser extent Assassin’s Creed. Think back to last year and try to find a triple A game that was an original IP, all I can think of is Gears of War and the main reason that that game got so much attention was the fact that Cliffy B was pimping it as his best whore.
I think it’s great that X-play gave Bioshock game of the year because it’s important to not only recognize successful sequels, but also new IPs. Without the recognition of new IPs we would be stuck in sequel land, and i know nobody wants that.

I love galaxy too, but that’s like comparing Finding Nemo to The Godfather, it just doesn’t work. An like I say at the end it’s important to recognize new IP’s not just sequels.

AND WHY DID PAC MAN WIN BEST DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT!!! WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU XPLAY!!!!
Pac-man C.E. is one of the best games on Live and it’s the first real sequel to Pac-man that’s actually fun. The graphics are beautiful (the same way geo wars just looks great), the music works perfectly and the gameplay is wicked fun with the level constantly changing with challenge modes that vary that gameplay.

smg got second best game of all time thats no finding nemo
You get where I’m coming from though right? Galaxy is great, but it’s not the same caliber game. Galaxy is meant to appeal to everyone just like Finding Nemo. In doing so Galaxy isn’t as complex of a game and has virtually no story. This is no jab at Galaxy, I’m just saying that you have to recognize that these are different types of games.

Did Bioshock have replayable real-time videos? No. Could you take screenies and send them to the company web site to send them to your computer? No. Was there any online play? No. Was there any Multiplayer AT ALL??? No! Were there vehicles to drive around? No. Also, there were WAY more weapons in Halo 3 than the plasmids and weapons in Bioshock. Upgrades are just part of the weapons.
Halo 3 was more fun, had TONS more replay value, actually had multiplayer (Which isn’t too much to ask for when you have guns and plasmids and other things) and didn’t really do all THAT much more than the other shooters. The story was great, but I lost interest after a while. It just got really repetitive.

I’m a bit offended at how they’d just hand best innovation to Assassin’s creed, after all of the climbing on buildings and running on walls was done by Prince of Persia 4 years before.
The animation, crown movements, etc will all be in Conviction, Assassins Creed was like a test for these programs.
Now that they are successful, even better version will be in Conviction.
see how he picked up that chair? There was no animation for that. the game is intelligent enough to think how he can pick it up. If the chair was tipped over, he would pick it up differently.

What was Bioshock’s song anyways? I mean, come on! Medal of Honor Airborne had a better soundtrack than Bioshock! (MOH Airborne took many pieces from MOH Frontline, which has one of the best soundtracks for a game).
