It has something that western toons do not have...a sort of reality to them. They are not afraid to portray love, violence, emotions and the like, where as western cartoons are more reserved and most of the western ones that attempt this are of a poor quality and feel rushed.

All in all, Anime is much like watching a good quality Hollywood movie, but due to the special effects that would be required to make such a thing( kinda like transformers), its just not cost effective. Its a million dollar movie told through animation.

I hate it for that very reason.

And too often it’s just plain old boring to watch. They get very lazy with the animation. I need more than a character shifting positions, a camera pan, and the occasional fight sequence.

A good cartoon should be enjoyable even with the sound turned off.

Are you talking about anime or western toons?

Anime.

Some animes may be creative and dynamic, but for the most part it’s real stock.

He speaks the unfortunate truth.

There are a lot of stock animes out there. Its their mainstream; essentially, its just like Cartoon Network here. There is a ton of shit.

But there is a ton of good stuff too. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Dokoro-chan, Akira, anything from Studio Ghibli, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Excel Saga/Puni Puni Poemy(which I didn’t really care for PPP, since it was too random, but some people like that and its got some quality production), to name a few.

I tend to like older anime a bit more than the newer stuff, since it was more definitive and not as stock-heavy.

All the best animes have under 100 episodes, and are usually targeted at an older audience, or at least that’s what I’ve observed.

i think it’s just why sean said, i dont like the cultural invasion. it pisses me off. i mean turning on cartoon network and seeing an array of anime, its too strange for me. and another reason i hate anime, is just like everyonebotheresme said, its complex, cartoons are supposed to be fun, not complex.

Maybe if you’re watching something like Lucky Star...

A lot of anime is pretty straightforward.

You sound like that black lady from The Matrix that gets really vague when she speaks and smokes like 5 million packs a day.
