DS117: Used to be a juggalo and a maggot. Now, he hate both vehemently.
Maggot Face: Used to be a huge slipknot fan. Now, he quote “Wont go near the stuff."
Nemesis: Used to listen to cradle of filth, and many a times defended them, until, he was converted to black metal that isnt watered down ape diarrhea.
Myself: A pure thrash and power metal fan, who was anti anything thats lyrics cant be understood without darklyrics. Now, Im simply anti metalcore. and emo. and disco. and life....
Now, this is a phenomena that has been perplexing me(big words are fun), so, what are you’re thoughts?
No flaming, blah blah...

Oh, btw...
My name, despite what it may seem or what I may jokingly tell people, actually has nothing to do with Slipknot xD
I refuse to share why with anyone. Why?
It makes people wonder. ---

Give me Guns and Roses, Santana, or Metallica over any of this new shit, any day. ---

idk how Emperor allowed CoF to tour w/ them...
CoF dose not even deserve to tour w/ Korn, much less one of the most kickass black metal bands ever ---

UBER 1337 Poster Rep: 24 Joined: 03 Apr 2007 Posts: 1,618 OFFLINE | I used to listen to Disturbed, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park and all that shit. I had however been hugely into Nine Inch Nails for a while, which was cool.
But then I bought a Metal Hammer mag with a free CD. This CD had Opeth’s Ghost of Perdition. It was quite honestly the most incredible thing I’d ever listened to. So I checked out the music reviews at my usual forum haunt (Sputnikmusic) and found that Opeth were massively well regarded, and went from there. Whilst I was reading the reviews, I found various other bands that sounded interesting, and checked them out too. Got their album Ghost Reveries for Christmas, then went straight onto Morningrise.
This was about the same time I was getting really into drumming, and so Martin Lopez became a massive influence. It was entertaining being able to play Windowpane in 6/4 after playing for 3 months. It was a new challenge. I think that’s why Ghost of Perdition blew me away so much though; it was groove mixed with a dose of brutality. Awesome.
Within a month, I owned 6 albums and a DVD by Opeth, and it was Steven Wilson’s production on Damnation and Deliverence that lead me to discover Porcupine Tree and Psychedelic, Jazz influenced music. I found Katatonia through Opeth too, which was a great find.
I spent hours on Limewire trawling for various Death Metal tracks, and ended up with a few Obituary tracks, some Psycroptic, and I tried in vain to get hold of some Decapitated. Got a bit of Enslaved, some Cannibal Corpse. Didn’t really know where to start or what genres I liked, just that Progressive bands like Opeth were intense.
After that, it all really kicked off (extreme metal wise) with buying Ihsahn’s The Adversary. A proper extreme metal album. From there, I unsurprisingly found Emperor.
Since then, it’s all been about Technical Death Metal for me, as well as Progressive Black. Largely due to the drumming tbqh. Bands like The Faceless, Cryptopsy and Meshuggah are my staple listening now.
My love of Porcupine Tree has lead me to alsorts of fucking weird music, branching out into Jazz Fusion, lots of Psychedelic, Ambient, Electronic and Minimalist, and more recently underground Rap and Hip-Hop. I think it’s PT that lead me to branch out so much. PT also got me into the artier side of music, and lead me to Isis, Neurosis, Tool. Unsurprisingly I discovered Blackfield and Bass Communion too.
I like to think that I had a big influence here in changing people’s opinions (particularly of Slipknot - I spent hours argueing with DVDA over Joey Jordison, harr), but it certainly wasn’t MVC that changed mine. It all started with a single free CD in a crap magazine. How cool is that? --- Weapon of Mass Percussion

UBER 1337 Poster Rep: 6 Joined: 26 Jul 2005 Posts: 3,460 OFFLINE | i have to be the odd guy out i guess in this topic/forum...i will gladly admit i still listen to my newer metal bands everyday like MuDvAyNe, Taproot,Nothingface,Deftones,Ill Niño,Sevendust,KoRn,Dope,Unloco,Nonpoint,gODHEAD and i could go on...and on
but i will also admit that some of the nu/alternative metal bands i use to love have changed for the worst in the past couple years...bands like Linkin Park..if you have read my other posts on this site then you already now that i think M2M was the biggest let down of 07...other bands that have changed that made me not as big of a fan are bands like..papa roach, p.o.d. SOiL,Static-x,Drowning Pool.
now if you dont really now me then you should no that even though 75% of the time i talk on here it will be about bands that are under the “nu-metal or alternative metal” genre..but i still now a lot about well evey genre of metal and believe it or not im as big of a Melodic Death Metal fan as i am a nu metal fan....i have liked in flames ever since colony came out, and i have loved opeth ever since 1999 when still life came out, and Amorphis is one of my all time favourite bands\m/..i also have to have all the albums for just about every big Melodic Death Metal group out there.
im also into “some” of the death metal..but i listen to mostly CoB, Daath, Chimaira, and some CoF..but ya those bands are not technically just Death Metal...they are like Melodic Death Metal, sub-genres like industrial death etc.
but ya i dont really want to ramble on lol...so i will just close it off by saying everyone is different for metal taste (and music taste) im a dj at a rock/metal station and i work full time at a major cd store and i see and hear every genre of music and i like alot of it but some types just arent for some peolpe.

Metallica is an overrated thrash band. Their songs are too long, and kirk hammet is massively overrated.
On the other hand, they were the ones who really brought “real” metal into the mainstream, which you can either love them or hate them for.
The thought that nothing good has been released in the past 20 years is foolish. Dont give me bs about classic anything. For good examples of newer good metal, United abominations by megadeth, Evil is the night by merciless death, monotheist by celtic frost, enemy of god by kreator, and give me your soul please by king diamond are all modern metal classics.
As for screaming, boohoo, you cant listen to the lyrics, appreciate it for the incredibly profiecent instrumentals. No, they arent random, they are dissonant. Dissonance is required to keep music interesting. ---
