I believe the big crunch hypothesis was disproved in 2004. The end of the universe will probably be a big freeze or a big rip.

The big crunch is one of many ways the universe could die. Any why do you come up with silly names like materialist, because the onlything we can use is part of the physical word, so really you are 2.
