if you are RESTRICTING what people can or cannot say, how is that freedom? just because it makes someone feel bad doesn’t mean that its in any way taking away, or even hindering, their right to say whatever they want. i can say whatever the fuck i want, and its on whoever i’m talking to to decide if they want to respond or ignore me. restricting freedom of speech is in now way liberating us. you are a fool if you think that.
I think flaming a member on-and-off for roughly a month is pretty damned excessive...but what the fuck do I know, I’m only 15...
Yeah, GR nailed it best when he said it’s lost it’s edge and passion.
Guess the others were right when they said it was a stupid battle to try and fix it too.
first off, i’m against the excessive flaming rule, but i’m willing to have it applied in that situation. but, from the sound of it, what you and cid are suggesting, as soon as an argument gets out of hand, bans start getting handed out.
No, when an argument gets out of hand we step in and hand out warnings. If it continues, bans will be given.
it boils down to the same thing. if an argument gets out of hand, the mods step in. ---

We’re not restricting what you can say.
Think of this like a school or a place of business. You’ve got to handle things in moderation.
Excessively flaming is already against site rules. We’re just going to be enforcing that rule more strictly.
Usually, we don’t ban or warn for it. It tends to just be an add on when we do ban somebody for other reasons. Now, however, we’re going to start enforcing it instead of tacking it on.
ah, yes, i see how restricting us from flaming isn’t restricting us at all. its actually FREEING us! we can say MORE now that we’re not allowed to say what we think about someone! great logic there buddy.
It is isn’t it?
When members aren’t too busy flamimg the shit out of each other they can start partaking in more meaningful or less hostile discussions.
yeah, cuz we all know we NEVER have non-flame filled conversations here. especially not now. nope. this is all one big flame fest. ---

Now when you take a side, the other side only gets more angry. It’s not like how it used to be. These flame wars continue day in and day out.
As you might have known, one of these flame wars compromised site security when a member took a mod’s account to ban somebody he had be quarreling with.
Things like this is unacceptable. It only happened because we didn’t step in and end the arguing before it hit a peak. ---

If it were the way it used to be, there would be no complaints in the first place.

tell me, cid. why is it that you want this place to be like any other forum? the fighting and drama is what makes this place interesting. people come here for entertainment. thats why people do most things. whats entertainment without conflict? look at any tv show, any movie, any video game, any book. how would it be if you took out the conflict? boring as fuck. ---

Well thats fine, but you need to accept it.
Forums change, new members come, old members go. The site grows in size, the style changes, the rules change.
This is not NEW moviecodec. This is simply Moviecodedc. there is no old Codec, it’s all the same thing, it’s just changing. It happens. Especially for such an old site.
Seriously, you just need to accept it and move on.
And even if things don’t work out, it will fix itself overtime. It always has, and it will continue so. | | #193 05 Feb 2008 09:00 pm |

I believe that the majority of this site comes here for the community. To chat with people that share the same interests. To make friends, whatever. It’s not to see large outbreaks of flaming and get pornography in their personal messages. ---

Yes, and what needs to be understood is that in order to get those more relaxed freedoms that we once had we must step up security. Show everyone who’s boss. Get rid of those who only seek to run off members with excessive flaming and trolling.
Once we get the members accustomed to behaving we’ll be able to start relaxing the rules again, because the site will be, more or less, tamed. ---
