Well I seem to remember Ganon taking over his body, which might indicate something. But it took four links to beat Vaati before. With two it’s going to be a bit harder, and we don’t know if Vaati is even dead

Yes. But Link isn’t the first one to beat Ganon. Engulf or someone was. He used the Ticori blade or something. Note, that was probably before Ganon got the triforce and became stronger. Minish cap is the beginning of Link’s story though as you said.

OOT Link would pick up TP Link with the golden gauntlets. Throw him at Vatti. Then TP Link would stab Vatti right in the eye with te ending blow. And it was the picori blade now known as the four sword.
