--- Dogbert said the deepest thing ever.
“It is all a part of the big illusion we perpetuate upon ourselves and which is in turn perpetuated upon us. When we believe we engage the illusion, when we stop believing we shatter the illusion and ourselves in the process because we are part of it."

well, this brings me to one of my two greatest fears.
if there is no religion, if it is all wrong, then when we die, we just cease to exist. its not like we can appreciate life after its gone, its not like we can be happy knowing we were good people or lived happy or whatever. its all over. your conciousness is gone. its as if you never exited. you have no memory, you have no love, you have no existance. everything you have ever done in your life is meaningless because you can’t even aknowledge its existance, and moreover, your not there TO aknowledge its existance. 80 years, and you will never come back. no do-overs, no sense of satisfaction, nothing. all gone. all useless.
that is why i fear a death in which i would go no where.
I guess thats whats religion is good for, having false hope in an afterlife. Do you actually believe in a pretty little raindbow place full of happiness and smily faces up in the clouds?

Without religion we wouldn’t have a religious comedy I’m not willing to give up making fun of others beliefs.

And these 'false hope' actually work. They do encourage people to do good.

Just because you can’t acknowledge your existence after your gone doesn’t mean your life was meaningless. I assume part of the reason you want an afterlife is because you want meaning in your life? You can find meaning without belief in an afterlife. But part of finding meaning in your life is conquering your fears. You don’t want to die in fear do you? Your not going to find meaning by being afraid. Courage is required for conscious growth which is one of the things people have found useful to them when finding meaning. If your not a peace with yourself then your going to find life harder.
and LordMarluxia, if someone needs to think they will be rewarded in order to do good, then they are not a very good person.

like in the belief of God or any other type of god that other people believe in, it gives them something to look up to and use as a sign of confidence or thinking of it as someone or something that put us here on earth.

no, i believe that that is a misconceptions that has been set up. people see “happy” and it translates to “rainbows and bunnies” somehow. never did get how that works.

whats the point of overcoming this fear? its not like you can face it and grow strong. you face it, and you then have no conscious of you ever having been.
