well, this brings me to one of my two greatest fears.
if there is no religion, if it is all wrong, then when we die, we just cease to exist. its not like we can appreciate life after its gone, its not like we can be happy knowing we were good people or lived happy or whatever. its all over. your conciousness is gone. its as if you never exited. you have no memory, you have no love, you have no existance. everything you have ever done in your life is meaningless because you can’t even aknowledge its existance, and moreover, your not there TO aknowledge its existance. 80 years, and you will never come back. no do-overs, no sense of satisfaction, nothing. all gone. all useless.
that is why i fear a death in which i would go no where.
Just because you can’t acknowledge your existence after your gone doesn’t mean your life was meaningless. I assume part of the reason you want an afterlife is because you want meaning in your life? You can find meaning without belief in an afterlife. But part of finding meaning in your life is conquering your fears. You don’t want to die in fear do you? Your not going to find meaning by being afraid. Courage is required for conscious growth which is one of the things people have found useful to them when finding meaning. If your not a peace with yourself then your going to find life harder.
and LordMarluxia, if someone needs to think they will be rewarded in order to do good, then they are not a very good person.
whats the point of overcoming this fear? its not like you can face it and grow strong. you face it, and you then have no conscious of you ever having been.
Because overcoming your fear does make you stronger. If you don’t then your never going to be able to clear your mind.

There is most certainly life after death however the life or experiance you live after passing from this lifetime to the next depends on what you believe to exist after you die.
Most people have a innate dread of death due to a few understandable reasons.
Most common of these are fear, unaccomplishment and worry.
They fear the unknown, such as what will happen after they die and seeing as there are very few of us out there who have overcome death and survived to speak about it, it often remains one of lifes biggest mysteries, only known to the few and the dead.
they also worry about leaving things unfinished or undone. Those who die young or find themselves on deaths door unexpectedly worry about family, who will take care of their stuff, who will pay for things like their funeral and even worry about not finishing a school assignment.
Worry is often exhibited by those who know they are going to die or come to the realization that death is inevitable. They worry about the pain, or unfinished business ect.
Fear of death is like fear of life.
Its going to happen no matter how hard you wish to change it so there is little reason to worry about what is indeed inevitable.
We are born dying for the time we exit the womb. Carcinogens and pollutants destroy our tissues the moment we take our first breath and continue to do so till we die. Its a long and often slow process of decay and deterioration that wears mus down till we are degraded and spent and breathe our last breath.

You talk as though you’re speaking for everyone...but all can see in that is you’re own opinion.
Use “I” every once in awhile, it’s your personal opinion after all...not some universal truth.
[i]I[/} think people are afraid of dying for many different reasons, though I agree that your reasons listed are biggy’s and certainly ring some truth into my own fears.
Anyway, I think I have a healthy fear of death. I mean, I’m going to avoid death were possible, if I wasn’t...I’d already be dead by now.
I dunno, death is easy..living is hard.
yes, like most outhers here, no problum with that.

Uni student.
They encourage us not to use I in assignments and the like and to be impersonal and general with our statements.
I was merely listing/elaborating on a few common fears/phobias surrounding death.
Sure there are people out there who don’t fear death or fear it for different reasons than the ones I delved into and I do apologize if it appeared I was trying to speak for everyone.
Just sharing some knowledge about psychological triggers that cue us to fear death.

But back to the topic isn’t it better to believe in heaven and find out that your right and your going to it. Or not believing in it finding out your wrong. Even if there is no heaven i’m going to keep believing that there is one. And if I’m wrong I’m wrong.

death, and whatever comes after it is inevitable. it is better not to fear it so as not to live your life fearing what cannot be prevented.
