The story behind Left for Dead is that all of LA has been overrun by a zombie infection and that you and three other people are the only survivors. The survivors must fight their way through zombie hordes to try and survive.
The gameplay is very interesting. Left 4 Dead will feature four-player co-op and eight-player, 4-on-4 Versus matches via Xbox Live or System Link. There are two teams zombies and survivors. The survivors must work together and try to escape the zombie hordes. Now the players who are zombies aren’t you average “shoot em up and they die” zombies. These are zombie bosses. There are 5 different types to be each one having a unique ability such as crushing through walls, climbing walls, ect.
While playing as a survivor it is basically your typical run and gun game. Only thing is you can be “downed” where you fall on your back and have to try and survive until your teammate comes to save you. While you are down you can shoot zombies.
The zombies use an AI director. What happens is the zombies have changed spawnpoints throughout the game. If you revisit a palce that you thought you had cleared out there may be an unpleasant surprise waiting there for you. The AI director also determines how many zombies to attack you. It sees if your being overun by zombies, in which case it’ll stop sending zombies at you or send less. If it notices you are having an easy “stroll through the zombie park” then it’ll be sure to change your mind very quickly.
You can also try to barricade yourself inside a room or building. But don’t expect to stay there for long as zombies have the ability to break down doors.
The game also makes you have to work toegther. Stray to far from your teamates and you’ll be dead. Don’t worry though because once you die you ned to wait for either all the other players die or wait for at least one player to reach a checkpoint throughout the level.
To sum it all up, Left 4 Dead is a multiplayer cooperative survival horror shooter in development by Valve Corporation based on the Source engine. There are two sides, the Survivors and Infected. Four players control the four Survivors, working their way through campaigns in rural and urban areas, fighting off dozens of the AI-controlled “infected” (fast, 28 Days Later style zombies). On top of the regular zombies, there are four player-controlled “boss zombies” all with unique powers for causing chaos. This mix of the dozens of AI-controlled infected zombies and the boss zombies makes for an entirely fresh co-op experience. Release is scheduled for the PC and Xbox 360 in late summer 2008.
Levels
There are 4 co-op levels. Two of them are rural and the other two urban. The new rural levels have an extra layer of creepiness over the urban; it feels more open, and the brick of a city is always going to feel safer than a fading, endless forest. This is particularly true of a forest that generates zombies.
Whereas the city level has a great line in claustrophobia, and keeps you on your toes with vertical combat, the cornfields level is that more fundamentally terrifying thing - a level where there is no safety, nothing to put your back against. It’s especially true in the final dash through the cornfield, running nearly blind and just hoping that the zombies won’t arrive before you get the doors closed.
The urban levels are also very frightening. Filled with dark hallways, subways, alleys and zombie infested streets. There are also tight inclosed buildings where you can try to hold out.

No, fast zombies are not zombies. Just crazy people.
Classic George Romero Zombies are the good kind.
If no slow mode, I’m not getting it.
so ur not getting it if they’re not slow? Wow...
Dude i think having them fast puts much more of a “scare factor” in the game. I mean when they’re slow it’s easy to pick em off before they get to ya. If they’re fast and run up to ya it gives u the “oh shit WTF!?" feeling.
besides Nervin it’s being made by Valve. Not to mention many previews are saying it’s going to be a great game.
but whether u get it or not doesn’t matter. Me, CPO, SAX, and Silver are rlly intrested in this game so i’ll just play with them.
Personally this is prbly gonna be my favorite horror survival game for this year. Just having Zombies tear through doors, run at me, and trying to save my teammates (except for CPO...he can die) will be awesome.
yeah. Slow zombies are easy to pick off. Easier than ones runnign at you at least. Plus it is more frightening. I mean with slow zombies i can just prtty much run around em with no prblm. Fast zombies i have to shoot away and try to push em off me.
Like in H3 infection. Slow zombies aren’t as scary and easy to pick off. That’s why most ppl like to make em fast. Well and becuase when ppl are zombies they hate being uber slow.
*zombies runs 40MPH, busts down the door and grabs you*
Oh wow... that was... so zombie-ish.
or...
*dozens of zombies bang on the window, until one finally shatters the glass. They all crawl in while you shoot them, moving back against the wall. Eerie music plays while the zombies moan, reach out for you, and slowly rip you apart*
Much, much more zombie-ish.
I want a zombie game, not “Shoot the speeding Dead dude."

I guess. I just think it makes it more frigthening. But after watching Dawn of the Dead fast zombies seem cool . I still say u get it...especially if u like horror survival games. O and it’ll be more than one zombie running fast and breaking through a door . Try like 20...more or less depending on what the AI directory sends at u.
And if the add slow zombies, all it means is more options.
How about a mix? Fast zombies are strong, but slow zombies will bunch together and be smart, like cutting off an alleyway while fast zombies run in and get you.

well as much as u may want it i dont think there will be slow zombies. Sry. U may wanna chek forums though as i may be wrong. Either way i still say u at least rent this game.
Interesting. I may get it, but its just not your traditional survival horror type game ya know. I like the traditional setup that you see in games like RE, SH, and FF. It’s more like an open world action adventure survival game ya know. I’ll see how the reviews go.
