yeah, that sound fair. But it should also look upon how much they have been on the site.
The time someone has been here has an effect to how trustworthy and dedicated they can be/are to the site. They don’t need to be REALLY old, but we can’t be having people who are fairly new due to possible trust issues and/or turn-arounds.
I think it’s become just a polite thing; people who have been here a while and are active generally score points in that area as opposed to someone who may have the same qualifications but doesn’t have as much history. Honour the elders type of thing.
I see where you are coming from.
Yeah. In the long run, being older and more active here doesn’t net you as much of a guaranteed position in my eyes if someone slightly newer is more qualified.
But, in some cases, that’s almost seemed to have been overlooked. =/

If we did get new mods i think Bjarn should choose the one(s) who are most active in certain sections. Like whoever is most active in off-topic, or on-topic, or games should be the mod. Like each mod has their own section to moderate.

There was an idea to limit moderator abilities to a specific section, but I myself found that really annoying since, if something happened in another forum, they’d be practically powerless. Never did think of something like that as a “compromise” though.

But being a more active member on the site (i.e. posts a lot) doesn’t make you a good mod.
If fact, I’ve found many off the members who post consistently are either rather bias or immature.
And, I disagree completely that “everything’s fine”.
This site is a great place only because of all the great people here. But we keep losing them. And, there are many problems all-around with this site.
Can’t keep applying band-aid measures. And like I said in one of those posts....this is OUR site. We are the ones who make it what it is, and should have ultimate decision where bjarne asks...“ok, what do you guys want and your wish is my command”.

in a sense, an active member is also the ones who try to resolve conflicts like excessive flaming in threads and lock the topics that are offensive or spam the site. I agree with treeplanter, more post does not make you a good mod. you have to have the responsibility.

Besides all that, I think it’s more the general idea of looking for people that are active more in that section. Picking who is best is more priority, but it’s another quality to be looking for if the moderator staff was redone.

Yes, but what about the sections of the site that are usually not visited like the homework and politics sections?

yes exactly, and thx gg.
We’ve had douchebags like Rockman Kenny and RTIYS2 just coem in here and spam and trash everyone. What do the mods do? They ban them but guess what...they come back again, and again, and again. Mods need a bit more power imo.
And as GG says without us Bjarn wouldn’t have a site. He needs us. We need to show him taht the site is having a bunch of prblms lately and hope that we can convince him to do soemthing about it.

you could have one person moderate all those small sections.
1. People state that vbulletin isn’t rock solid. i dont see any hacked. meanwhile, mvc has gotten hacked and gets hacked often enough.
2. vbulletin has a huge array of admin options that allow mods more control and power, and it’s always at their fingertips. it comes part of the site. Whereas to get bjarne to make any changes requires him and him alone to find time to do anything. vbulletin has a network of developers constantly upgrading it and updating it every year too.
3. there are so many features and functions that can be implemented so easily via vbulletin that i think we ALL as users would enjoy.
4. any thing to do with advertising that bjarne wants is obviously part of vbulletin too. you can have google ads etc etc placed everywhere.
Etc.

Maybe he wouldn’t want that because it’s his site, end of story (I’m sure among other reasons).
Maybe he doesnt want that, but it’s OUR site too. In fact, I would argue that in many ways OUR opinions/feelings matter more seeing as we’re the ones who occupy it and live it.
And we’ve been thru this before, all the same problems, same lack of functions (for mods and users), and he knows it’s a huge operation to upgrade and update and be constantly attentive of it.
I’ll give you an example....XBL, or PSN, or some online game. The devs open it up to the people what they want, what can be improved, seeing as they’re the users, the livers of it. And the devs comply. Or, like a place where people go. Like a party. Whoever organizes it always gets feedback from people how to improve etc. If everyone thinks the place sucks and wants to trash it or leave it then the organizer has to listen more.

I think that we should have at least two or three. we should have a mod that is on most of the time, not for how many posts you have but to watch over the site and certain sections

Personally, no new ones, just revise the current roster.
As for making this site like Vbulleten, I wouldn’t mind improvements like that, but I don’t want it to turn out like another vbulleten site either. It’s moviecodec, I feel it should stay moviecodec, not just turn into something that seems to fade away with another crowd like that. =/
I mean, if it came to that type of thing, we could just grab everyone who wants to go, make a vbulletin site for all of them, and ditch here, leaving the original codec side of the site.
-shrugs-
Iunno.
It’s our posting here and making it a place where new people hear about it and come, that makes Bjarne’s own network of sites prosper too.
This whole lounge.moviecodec site, with all the different boards and ideas in it, came from a similar meeting last year. I and some others pushed for more, pushed for vbulletin, for the mods too, and to help alleviate the burden on bjarne in running this site so manually, and it met resistance.
Resistance is to be expected...from bjarne, a mod, some users. But the same problems keep coming back (spam, lack of mods, hacking, hate towards the site, people leaving, bjarne absent for months, etc) that this has to be revisted again.
Seriously, before last year, this place was bustling. You wouldnt believe how many thousands came here. Then problems. Then people slowly but surely leaving. Changes made to lounge.moviecodec, but still a year later there are the same problems. This place is dying. We keep losing more good people. More and more are disappearing.
I’m serious when I say this site I worry about in the near future. It could go to hell completely. End up a true wasteland. Ive been in so many sites that went thru all this situations, went from bustling to dead.
