we cant do anything because we have to ask bjarne to manually code stuff. he’s seldom around, so months go by, and then he could say, nah dont wanna do it, (just doesnt have the time, not disliking the idea), so nothing gets done. or he could say, ok i’ll do it, but it takes 6 months before anything happens.
instead, with vbulletin, WE have the control here, to install things like that. there’ll be mods always here, who have admin controls like that. so nerevar’s idea about clan tags etc could be done at the snap of the fingers.

Yes, I know.
But the Gaming Clan is the biggest organized group on the Site.
In fact, I believe it’s the largest the site has ever had.
Every time we have a tournament, We’ll be representing Mvc.
And besides, it’s good to know who’s in charge and whats what.

moviecodec (the codec side of things) is now it’s own self-contained site.
lounge.moviecodec can therefore be vbulletin, have no guests post, can contain a large gaming dedicated area, that gets noticed by NG4. I mean, look how many awesome knowledgable people about gaming we have here. I cant name them all. We could have blogs built into the vbulletin site for gaming, lifestyle, etc. our own games review sections. we can have people shoot video and post it on youtube to install into MvC here as part of gaming and lifestyle boards etc.
This mofo can be a lot more if the mods/regulars are given the power and leeway to make it what we want. All bjarne has to do is allow us to make lounge.moviecodec become it’s own entity. It’s still gonna advertise moviecodec, and moviecodec can remain a handmade coded site with guest posting.

Yeah, the only problem is.. Nobody here wants change. Believe me, I’ve tried. And my account was hacked and used to destroy the site, possibly because of trying to bring about that change. Nobody here wants a change, at least not the members who’s opinions matter most.

Things I took note on:
- Starting over may be a good idea. You can only apply so much band-aid before you look like a mummy. In another thread, I mentioned if we start over, we better have a really good plan/design ahead of time so that everything (mods, rules, boards*, faq’s, etc.) is set and ready to go when the flood of new posts starts.
- I don’t know anything about vbulletin or any other system, so don’t count on me for an opinion there. Ultimately, any switch would be Bjarne’s decision.
- the idea of making www guest-allowed and lounge registered-users-only may be a good compromise. Bjarne’s concept of the site was originally to allow people to quickly ask codec-related questions (often just one) without having to go through the hassle of registration
- the moderating I do on www is 10^99 times easier than here because there’s no social element (no sides to take, no value system to abide by, etc.) I just look to see if the post is on-topic (codecs/audio/video/cd burning), not nonsense/spam/profanity, and a couple of other things, else I delete it, and that’s pretty much it. I almost never need to resort to ban. Lounge moderation is much more difficult, and I doubt I could do most of it. However I’ll say any rules or guidelines can be arranged between you guys.
- I’m totally open to change. I used to suggest a lot, but for whatever reason (I think mostly time, or complexity of implementation) they didn’t materialize.
Question: If we switch to vbulletin, do you think old posts should be transferred, or should they just be archived, as in like archive.moviecodec.com? (Again I have little say in this, just asking other people’s ideas)
For now I’m just overwhelmed with the vandalism in www. I hardly know what happens in lounge, so I apologize in advance for being a bit uninformed.
* Yeah, I’d agree some of the categories were probably poorly planned, as seen by the very uneven distribution of posts.

To put it bluntly, they need to deal with change.Sites that last this long... it’s simply routine to upgrade.
The site will almost always follow that of what the 'main' members believe and want. No one cares about the newer members.

UBER 1337 Poster Rep: 24 Joined: 23 Dec 2007 Posts: 1,944 OFFLINE | i can’t think of any real problems with the site. the speed has picked up and the mods are fine. for god sake they are doing there job out of concern for this site. they enjoy the site and want it to be enjojable for us. i’ve been on this site for over two years and the y mods have done a good job. they make mistakes but who doesn’t. the only real problem with this site is annoying members, but there here to stay.
