Speed of light would put a character out of the earth’s atmosphere and past the moon’s orbit within the blink of an eye when they’re moving. Yet when fighting at full power, they stay over the same general location, still well within the Earth’s atmosphere.
This happens in the manga as well as the show, which proves how slow DBZ characters really are. The fastest speed feat shown in DBZ pegs Gotenks at moving at around 200,000 miles per hour. (Circling the Earth 8 times in about 5 seconds)
Speed of light is about 670,000,000 miles per hour.
You can see the major gap between Gotenks SSJ3 Speed and Superman, who is proven to be faster than the speed of light. ---
