No.

There are things that are a lot more dangerous than (violent) video games. Alcohol, for example, has turned people into drunks who more willingly commit violent acts. Of course, it’s never a substance that causes the problem. It’s the person who uses the substance as a catalyst.

This pretty much means that banning (violent) video games isn’t going to do anything. Those people who are going to kill 'because' of violent games are still going to commit the crime eventually. It’s not like you can ban those (violent) games and suddenly end all those problems that they supposedly cause. And anybody who thinks that (Jack Thompson) is a fool.

No, you should be able to condone or deny your children the right to play certain games that are inappropriate. All should not be punished for the misdeeds of one!

Of course they shouldn’t. By telling people they shouldn’t be playing some game is controlling not only their freedom to do something but a developer’s freedom of expression. Unless you like taking away liberty and squashing it under a totalitarian government, then games shouldn’t be banned. However there should be guidelines that should say what games have in them and what ages they are appropriate for them, AKA ESRB. However those guidelines should be nothing more than that and now initiated by any law. If a 10 year old buys an M game the problem is the parents not the developer, game store, or society. Need to put more blame on parents these days. Individual responsibility is just something no one cares about anymore.

Even though I find videogames incredibly boring and think they do cause agressive thoughts in people, it’s just not practical to ban them. For 99.99% of people it’s not going to turn them into killing machines, and for the 0.01% of people it does, they were troubled and probably would have been influenced by some other external factor to commit violent acts if they didn’t play videogames anyway. Violence is going to exist whether we have these games anyway, so let’s not wreck all of the non-violent majority of gamers fun.

And if you realy want to get rid of all influential violent media, then let’s ban every movie, book and game with violence in it in all history. Bet those conservative soccer mom assholes aren’t too fond of banning Shakespeare’s MacBeth are they? Or Gone with the Wind? Or the Bible?

The real problem here is that some people don’t seem to realise that things they’re not into (eg. violent media, porn, drugs whatever) can be really important to other people and that by banning these things that really aren’t hurting anyone they’re really making a lot of people’s lives sadder. If it fucks with their brain, too bad, it’s their brain not yours and they can fuck it up as much as they like.

Congrats. You just proved my point there. Well done!

Playing video games causes people to not work out because they are too busy playing video games indoors.
