While the ground forces of the Imperium of Man are far superior, the Galactic Empire has one huge advantage: Hyperspace.
Not only is it much faster than the method that Imperium ships use, (traveling through the warp) but you do not have to worry about demons attacking the ship or possessing the crew, and you do not need the emperor to guide the ship personally.
Oooh, tactical hit and run strikes, the Imperium’s biggest weakness. Hmmmmm, now just trade hyperspce technology with the Tau in exchange for some star-destroyer mounted railguns and we’re away
ok in that case the emperor of man sees this coming 2 centuries earlier and sends a squad of imperial assassins to get palpy, everyone ends up happier when he never rises to power in the first place

Here’s my thought. Palpatine dies but his force ghost infests the god emperor creating one single entity with power over both the warp and the force. The two then merge the empire and the imperium and become an unstoppable force. The empire is turned from a mere dictatorship into a completely dystopian society. Vader’s encounter with Luke works out differently, he realizes the error of his ways and joins the rebel alliance. They all ship off to seek aid from the Tau and Eldar two of the only semi reasonable societies in 40k. They give Tau hyperdrives to help make up for their transportation limits and the Tau give them some Rail guns and battle suits. There’s a big battle royal and in the end the god emperor-palpatine combo are separated by the efforts of the most powerful force users and psychers in the two galaxies.
Beautiful. If you do not mind, I would like to add an epolouge
After the separation of the God Emperor and Palpatine, the two try to pick up the remains of their respective empires to fight on. However, the now unified alliance of the Rebellion and the Tau manages to capture the two as well as their subordinates, such as the lord inquisitor and lord commander militent. Their powers are drained from them and they are at long last held accountable for the various atrocities both had committed in the past (I.E. Alderaan for palpatine, inqusistion in general for the G-E.) and face the harshest of punishments. Now, with the greatest evils defeated, the Rebellion settles down, merges with the Tau, and manages to introduce some democratic features into the existing Tau monarchy. Many of the Jedi adopt the ideology of the greater good, and a glimmer of hope at last dawns upon the war torn galaxies.
YEah, but the Tau are thousands of times smaller. And Orks and the Chaos ally with the empire.
"And Orks and the Chaos ally with the empire.“Necron Lord
Like heck they will....both Orks and Chaos have one thing in common. They are both Chaotic Evil... Now I don’t know if any-one here has played D&D 2nd edition but I can ensure you
that an C.E. ally never lasts and usually even making them alley is imposable.

Dear god what is wrong with you people. These are two fictional universes of which we have not actual samples of their technology. Its impossible to do any objective testing of any of this shit.
You can’t determine if the warp is stronger then the force or anything like that because the two can’t be compared directly as they don’t exist within the same cannons.
Star wars is doubtlessly full of inconsistencies. I highly doubt encapsulated plasma would really result in a minor injury.
Here’s my catch all answer to this question. It would be a tie or a vaguely arguable victory for one side or the other. Wanna know why? because if these two universes were ever put together in a story, thats how the writers would write it in order to satisfy the respective fans. They’d make up whatever excuses they need for inconsistencies. Thats how fiction works. Don’t believe me? Look into Marvel vs DC
And also, Get lives you’re all taking this way to seriously.
You fool,
you are on a forum, which topics revolve around the most infamous nerds of them all; sci fi nerds. We do this for it is amusing to us, to having a seemingly even battle and after the fanboys finish speaking, the normal people tell the blatantly obvious one sided battle. This is entertaining to us.
Also, if the Many world theory is correct then there is no such thing of fiction, just telling historical accounts of other universes.
Finally i apologize for calling you a fool. It was impolite.
Nicely said. But I need to say this Im a huge Star Wars fan love the empire cause they just simple rock. I also am a huge fan of warhammer 40k and the imperium. Ive read and played and watch the stuff about these teo for a long time. Here is my breakdown.
Space: The Empire will rape in space no questions asked. They have far bigger and more powerful ships and are far more versed intheir uses. That said the Imperium will put up aa fight but not much of one.
Ground: Overwhelmingly in favor of the Imperium. Their vehicles and Troops are better at it. The only thing that the Empire has that could have a chance in hell of standing up to the Legions of Space marines is the Dark Troopers so lets put it this way.
Dark Troopers: 2,000 give or take a few hundred
Space Marines: 500,000 give or take a few tens of thousands.
Leaders: Vader might give a Primarch a run for their money no doubt they are both powerful but I believe this battle would be in favor of His Vaderness. But if he faces more than one at a time he’s screwed.
Emperor Palpatine Vs. The God-Emperor
Palpatine has suprise on his side if he wanted to I bet he could be as spry as Yoda whipping around shooting force lightning and creating Illusions. The God-Emperor weilds tremendous Psychic power and an extreme amount of experiance. Considering he’s a few tens of thousands of years old.
Winner: The God-Emperor
His psychic power is a deciding factor considering the things he can and has done with it compared to Palpatine. The God-Emperor would mostly likely be a little “shocked” and probably missing an arm but in a fit of rage I have no doubt he would psychicly beat Palpatine than mindrape him for taking an arm off.
Okay. Everyone think for a moment. What is the best weapon on your heaviest Star Destroyers? oh, that’s right. Multiple turbolaser arrays. What’s on our good old battleships?
torpedoes 300 ft long.
Void Shields.
And the beauty of them all, the lance. Here I demonstrate their power.
1. Lance hit were known to destroy continents on direct hits with several batteries.
2. Konrad Kurze’s flagship (during the Horus heresy!) fired into a fairly small hole in the crust of a planet. The planet was destroyed.
And then there’s the good one, the cream of the crop: the bombardment cannon. It is the main weapon of a SM strike cruiser. It fires shells powerful enough to blow apart smaller (capital) ships with a single shot.
And if we use all troops, it has the Phobos and Deimos defense fleets. Comparing their guns to a lance is comparing a turbolaser array to a blaster pistol.

HOWEVER, it will not be long before a new evil arises. The merging between Palpatine and the God-Emperor, two beings powerful in their respective energy fields, created a twisted bridge between the Force and the Warp. Now, the force ghost of Darth Nihilus, the consumer of planets, traveled through this bridge, and into the realm of Chaos. There, he was resurrected, only even more powerful than during his past life. Not only that, but he himself now has chaos soldiers in his serving. A new evil has arisen....
sw empire is lost against the imperium of man kind, even if they got the deathstar, the space marine fleets can surround the death star ant teleport terminators, if you think space marines have a thoug armour this guys are living tanks, dont care if death star have force shiel, with teleportation they can get in, destroy thef orce shield generator, kill all enemy opose them and return to their fleet only to see how all of the sheep blow up the "$#"#%& death star with an exterminatus, and anyways space marines have treath with thing, planets and weapons of galactic davastation many times during the conquer of galaxy, macharian crusade, and blackstone fortress(even more powerfull than the death star), and the imperium of man kind have captured some blackstone fortres so they can use the to blow up the death star without problems
Considering numbers involved and roles, wouldn’t Stormtroopers be more directly compared with Guardsmen? Roughly equivilent weapons, although fluff-wise the Stormtroopers should be slightly better trained and better armor, the Guardsmen have more people.
Jedi would be compared to Space Marines. Combat Jedi would have slightly higher ws, lower strength and toughness, and power weapons. In equal numbers, I’d give the fight to the Jedi, but again the Space Marines outnumber the jedi.
In short, the Imperium just uses weight of numbers to crush the Empire.
