Vegetto/Gogeta was the fastest character in the whole series, and not even they were at the speed of light.
If Goku was anywhere near the speed of light, whenever he was attempting to outrun someone/thing, it would be no problem, since light can go around the world somewhere like 7 times in one second. Goku has shown no signs of even approaching that speed. ---

....what? Statements mean nothing. If Goku could go the speed of light then several times when trying to outrun somebody he could easily manage to go around the world in the blink of an eye and he hasn’t.

Gotenks was fast, but the Vegetto/Gogeta fusions are much more powerful, since Goku and Vegeta are stronger than Goten and Trunks.

Ok? That doesn’t mean the ball was going at the speed of light.
Keep in mind when I say “blink of an eye” I mean much faster than that. Light is 299,792,458 meters per second. Like I said, if Goku could go even half that speed, he would circle the globe at least 3 times in one second.

Have you seen his full speed? Logic would say if he could he would use it when trying to escape someone. But he never has. His speed has increased but he can not attain light speed.
