Whether people want to admit it or not, The Legend of Zelda storyline can be quite deep and confusing.

Nintendo has never formally announced an official timeline or series story outlay or if they are even connected. It is left up to simply the fans to speculate.

One of the more promising theories has always been the split timeline theory. That entire theory can be viewed here:

After watching it you’ll be quite enthralled and more confused. Especially about where that leaves our hero in his next adventure. It is all quite possible that the next game could extend past a critical point in the story and make a new one kinda like how Wind Waker did. But I speculate that the next game will occur between Twilight Princess and Wind Waker.

Why? Well first of all it goes back to a quote by Miyamoto himself. He stated that after Twilight Princess the series will never be the same. In other words something huge is going to happen in the next game. So why do I pick between TP and WW. Well according to that speculative timeline they come in order. At the end of Twilight Princess the story completed for that game but left a very awry feeling. And at the beginning of Wind Waker we are at the beginning of a world that has been completely destroyed. Whatever goes in between them must have been dark and drastic. This would fit Miyamoto’s quote.

So what’s going to happen. I really don’t know but it’s fun to speculate. Anyone got any ideas. The next Zelda game is supposed to hit late 2009 or late 2010.

I think that it should pick up after Majora’s Mask. So we will see what happened to the Link from Ocarina of Time.

Maybe the next Zelda game will have Ganondorf killing Link and Zelda then plunging Hyrule into eternal darkness and forcing the sages to seal him away. shocked

All about Ganondorf. Kick ass game that would be. Imagine going through Ganondorf’s life in a video game.

NO I would never want an LoZ game from Gannon’s perspective. That would just be lame.

I think the next Zelda game will take place between TP and WW. It’s going to be very dark and melancholy. I think after the disturbances caused by Gannon and Link in the Twilight will start to have effects on the world till some how it ends up the way it is in WW. The game will feature Link, Zelda, and Gannon as usual, and at the end you’ll see all 3 parts of the triforce die off.

Yeah, or at least a game that is after Majora’s Mask.

Well there have been numerous games that follow in the path of MM, but they just came before MM came out.

It’s the other side of the split timeline that has had so few. But the next Zelda game is goign to be quite dark. I mean any game that is going to tie into WW has to be a dark game.

Yeah, but it would be nice to know what happens to the Link from OOT. A continuation of that story.

Well unfortunately there have been very few Zelda games that actually feature the same Link in each. I mean of course the Link in MM and OOT were the same but even that’s debateable with the split timeline thing.

And I think the Link in Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 are the same as well. But that’s it. So its not like you’ll see a Zelda game actually follow a link before to his inevitable death, although the next game might break that because we know somewhere in between TP and WW the line breaks. The Hero with the triforce of courage is no longer recognized and known meaning something had to be broken. So we’ll see.
