iraq is a very small reason.the redicules housing buble formed by greedy ceo’s and bushes reelection bid is the biggest reason, greenspan keeping the inerestrates so low for so long caused the vast majority of the economic woes. iraq interms of cost is minimal. the u.s. spent all kinds of money during the cold war not just in weapons but funding anticommunist factions. war is generally profitable. politics caused the current problems.
