Sure, why not? I’m sure you’d have no concessions amazing us with your razor-sharp intellect. Go on, I’m waiting eagerly to have my mind expanded by your Socratic philosophical ground-breaking counter-argument. [/sarcasm]

I attend a school which is about 60% African American. As a result, I hear rap music every day blaring from their maximum volume iPods. So, based on the seconds of what I hear before shielding myself with slightly more complex music, I say the OP is correct. They only listen to rap about the things the OP posted and never anything positive.

The great majority of extremely popular rap is about negative things. Most people just want to listen to what’s on the radio, and what’s more readily available. If you like looking for positive and cleaner rap, good for you.

The very fact that people flock like sheep towards the most popular and most heavily advertised artists is disappointing and makes me even more cynical of the human race.

rap is way better than any gay shit you listen to. I love to bend over in front of the speaker and turn it up all the way so i can feel the beat in me while my dog fucks me hard and fast

First of all... Slipknot is not metal. It’s popmetal/nuradiotrashmetal. Just like Lil Wayne is not a rapper, he’s a pop artist. You talk about death metal crap, but you’re nonsensical in your ramblings. In Flames is crap, really? Nile? If you don’t like a style of music, that’s fine, but don’t call it garbage for no reason. K1NG JOHN, the beats in both can be very awesome. Look up some death metal blast beats for an example of sick stylings on the drums. Drum N' Bass, for that matter, has much better beats, in general, than rap.

How you managed to stick Lil Wayne on that list, and not De La Soul, or Redman, or Nas, or CunningLynguists, or Atmosphere... Completely baffles me. Tupac was good, Biggie was good, Jay-Z is pretty good, but Weezy is more along the level of Soulja Boy.

yeah I pretty much agree with this post... only thing I disagree with is Atmosphere’s presence on that list... so many better well-known emcees/groups you coulda put on there like:

the Wu
The Roots
Pharoahe Monch

etc.

Yes, real life happens but the violent, misogynistic, derrogatory aspects of life do not need to be glorified.

2-5 are a matter of personal opinion.

King John says, “Rap doesn’t degrade anyone..."

You could not be more wrong.

Far too many examples so I will give one from each side of the spectrum.

“Superman that ho..." - degrading to women. Probably one of the more harmless yet still degrading lyrics.

On the other end of the spectrum, think of all the lyrics that discuss killing.

And for the middle of the spectrum, think of all the examples of flagrant cursing and name-calling that do nothing but degrade the lyricist and the listener alike.

In response to the top statement made by Metalhead, I have only this to say: the lack of education you speak of that supposedly exists within Rap music, also exists within you. You have no respect for the English language, as you’ve totally sabotaged it by typing what seems to be one of the longest, most drawn out run-on sentences in the world! My dear friend, you make a horrible point; whereas most rappers speak about growing up in a struggle while dealing with hard times and others speak about making millions of dollars and big fancy cars, Metal is totally opposite. You see, Metal, is a creation of White Trash Suburbia where teenage boys hang themselves in their parent’s garage, are involved in school shootings and talk about raping their Mothers, etc.

How is that so much better? I agree somewhat with you that Rap may be extremely vulgar and agressive at times, but honestly Mister Metalhead, how dare you speak of your 'metal' musice as if it contains the least bit of anything positive or entertaining! It is fucking horrible, white trash bullshit that destroys brains of the youth while Rap may speak of obscenities, it’s all a part of everyday life. Would you rather have your kid smoking weed and standing up for himself or, psh, BOOM! Committing suicide? You be the judge.

Nobody’s a winner but if I had to choose what I’d rather grow up listening to, it’d be Rap.

Popular rap right now is about these things.
1.)Killing bitches (men and women.
2.)Selling drugs.
3.)Something to do with prison.
4.)Saying how cool you are for 3 minutes.
5.)Having sex with drunk girls.
6.)Three minute long advertisments. (Vans, apple bottom jeans)
7.)Racism against white people.
8.)Being a slut.
Popular rap is basically bad poetry about being retarded and doing illegal things that hurt people. Don’t try to redeem it by saying some rap isn’t about that. Its 1% that is actually decent is not well liked.
And just so you know, i do actually hear alot of it. I live at a Job Corps and 75% of the people hear listen to it.
By the way, just so everyone knows, IT IS NOT COOL TO RANDOMLY SHOUT OUT RAP LYRICS IN PUBLIC. Not will it ever make you look anything but retarded.

Job Corps, psh, I got out of there quick; I was in the college-program in Pittsburgh - the only one that offers it and man, that shit was horrible. The dorms replicated the dirtiest and dingiest Brooklyn Project hallways .. ha, all we did was smoke weed and chill. Cigarettes were $10/pack, they sold all types of drugs, everyone was banging everyone! haha Now I understand why it’s FREE, anything the Gov’t claims is FREE, is the worst thing imaginable.

This thread needs to get back on track. It has some good arguments on both sides.
