MR scientist Guest | Our first step in finding outside was something few internet users eve dare to think. We switched off the computer (OMG). Detcatched from this we were already beginning a whole range of new and strrange things such as 'door', 'desk, and most interesting, 'window'. This 'window' had the appearence of a high-definition TV turned on it’s side, but had no cables nor a power button. A technology masterpiece? That depends on your point of view. There appeared to be no way to exit the screen-saver, which interesting for a while did not justify having the item installed in a wall of my room.
Progressing through object 'door' we next had to master 'stairs'. These bizarre protrudances appear to be the result of shoddy modelling and were difficult to navigate... these days nicely smoothed terrain is a must. Perhaps these 'stairs' are natural phenoma possibly caused by a local earthquake.
After traversing the stairs, and using item 'key' on object 'door' We foudn ourselves outside for the first time. The experience was incredible. There was no fogging, clipping, or slowdown. The frame rate must have been very high. 'Gravel' was no longer pixellated textures but a masterpiece of individual pieces of stone, smoothed to perfection. The lighting and shadows were perfect also. It was odd having a floating object above us providing light. An odd concept, but effective at that. Bathed in this light, colours around us were vibrant and the world actually seemed real! Yet there were some strange anomalies. No weapon or armour pick-ups were anywhere, although this may have been intentional. When we spoke, we couldn’t see what was said. Presumably a bug where the character sets used, but to talk without quotes, fonts or a username preceeding the words is very out-of-date. Audio-visual-synchronisation was very good.Another issue was that of the characters. For some reason my shout of “Hey ASL all!" was ignored and out attempts to meet with individuals n a simular way were also ignored. However, an NPC 'Milkman' did give us our first quest, to take 2 bottles of milk to the kitchen. However, no matter how many times we walked over the milk bottles, they were not added to our inventory.
Overall, our first experience of Outside was incredible. Despite the obvious bugs and oor community, it is something very different to the online world. But having proved it exists was enough for us, and so after out internet briefing, we returned to the comfort of internet lifestyle. |
