Philmore Slim Guest | Honestly he’s the best... people dont want to give him the title because he’s new, other dont want to give him the title because they dont grasp the lyrical genius that this man wields... But the more Lupe songs I here the more I am amazed and when compared to any other rapper in terms of lyrical talent, Lupe wins hands down...
Some say Nas is better, but I disagree. Yes Lupe’s style was/is inspired by Nas but you can’t say Nas is better for that reason alone.
So if anyone actually understands Lupe’s songs then feel free to debate this but if you don’t then dont even reply...
Anyone who say lil wayne is better should just ignore this lol. Lil Wayne is my favorite rapper and the rapper I enjoy listening to the most but when it comes to lyrical talent he is not too high on the food chain.

226 Guest | I wouldnt say ever, dont think hes better than Pac, Big, or Nas
Pac had the biggest influence
Big was probably, or IS the best mainstream rapper ever
Nas is as equally lyrical as Lupe, if not then more. Plus Lupe’s songs are great n all but its not “catchy"

He’s pretty good, but he ain’t anywhere near close to the best. More obvious candidates like Rakim and Nas are clearly better than him (along with the people who followed Rakim & Nas like AZ), but there are also more underground peeps like OC, Pharoahe Monch, Godfather Don, Kool Keith, Ras Kass, Casual (from Heiroglyphics)... Hell, there’s newer groups and rappers that are better than him like Blu & Exile, Common Market, Cunninglynguists, Little Brother, (imo) Panacea, Jazz Addixx... You just gotta look.
Lupe Fiasco is pretty good, though. There’s no denying that. He just isn’t the best.

Philmore Slim Guest | Okay I respect both view points...
But lets start wit 226...
Yes Pac and BIG are masters but if we focus our microscope on lyrics (which is/should be the most important aspect of rap music) then Lupe clearly has them beat. Pac is very poetic but not nearly as complex with is ideas as Lupe... And honestly B.I.G.(imo) didn’t have as much substance as Lupe does. Tho Pac and big re two of the greatest that have ever and will ever do it, I believe Lupe has the beat lyrically.
And Nas, I would say s the closest to his lyrical genius (on his heels) he’s the only rapper that I can think of that I would accept someone saying that Lupe is second to. But I feel like Lupe is Nas plus a little more. Lupe is a lot more versatile Nas and I feel like Lupe employs more aspects of rap than Nas does. But if you feel different explain.
Okay and for wierd guy
I have heard many, not all, of the artist u named, including Blu... And while they are very talented Lupe surpasses all of them in lyrical skill. I used to have the same view point that you have but the more I listened to Lupe’s work I began to catch more clever lines and more complex themes in his music... The man is un-paralleled especially by some of the artist that u named. But again if u feel different... Explain...

I never said one song makes a rapper “best” lol. Actually there not too many Lupe songs that arent genius lol just most people dont fully understand them so the dis credit the songs as average but any body with a lil intelligence and interest should be able to listen to Lupe’s music and grasp his superb skill... I used dumb it down as a song to draw a line or qualification for this thread... Im saying to the people who dont grasp the full point or msg in the dumb it down song will prolly not be able to give a decent argument for or against my original argument... Ya feel me?

He may have a lot of songs, but not enough albums in his credit.

And u seem to fall in the category of critics that holds Lupe’s “newness” against him, which can be justified... BUT Based off his two albums (Check the reviews for both) and the few mixtapes he has released he is unparalleled. And I challenge u to listen to his music with an unbiased ear, then see how u feel.
Im not saying that he makes the best Albums tho... I feel like Food & Liquor was a instant classic, and the Cool was close to being one but I’m just saying that there is not rapper as lyrically talented as him

I am not a critic. I don’t base it off of what other people or reviewers say. If I like it, I’ll listen to it. If I don’t, I won’t listen to it. It’s that simple. Don’t get all pissy just because I am giving my opinion on someone. Get over it.

I bought The Cool and i think it’s the best album I’ve ever heard but he just doesn’t appeal to the masses as Nas, Biggie, Eminem, and Tupac did. I’ve heard most of his songs off of his mixtapes and he is just a lyrical genius. I thought i understood everything in Dumb it Down..Wow was I wrong..I went to this site and saw someone’s personal breakdown..basically 3/4 of the song went over my head lol..I’ll put the link up

If you want the best pure “lyracist” ever that’s Canibus and it’s not that I’m hating I don’t mind conscious rap if it’s good and I’m not saying that Lupe isn’t good just he’s not great. And how does Papoose sound like a homo???
