Why do we have to follow God? Isn’t it your religon that says God will allow you in heaven based on what you were taught in life and if you followed the commandments?

According to the Budduhism set of beliefs, the 8 fold path, we need no god to obtain 'heaven' so to speak.

Answer this first... atheist... btw you and these universe are proof that god is exist...
No. I don’t believe in anything I cannot see physically.
The universe is proof? No it is not. Anything could have made the universe.
If you are saying God created the universe... what created God?
Want some proof of God’s non existance? Look around you. Look at the pain and suffering. Do you think a loving, caring God would throw us in this world of misery and hate?
And do you expect God to do everything for you? to fix all of your problems? Then what is the point of free will? We have to learn to do things for ourselves, not to let God do everything for us.
Why wouldn’t he? He has the power doesn’t he? What does he have to hide?
Why would he? Does he have to do everything for you?
Why not? He is all powerful. His power is limitless, am i right?
Yes, you’re right. But why should he have to do everything for you? You might ask God to get you a job, pay your taxes, work. Do it yourself.
God is considered as our father. Parents want us to be completely happy, so, why not? It will make us happy.
And God expects us to fix problems like racism, extinction, etc. all by ourselves? Or even stop global warming for that matter?
Are you saying that it’s impossible for humans to stop suffering? Jesus did. It’s all our own free will to choose to do right.
Jesus was not a human. He was the son of a god. One person may choose to do what is right, but that does not mean everyone else will. It is too hard to achieve such a big idealist goal.

Right. So saying we have to serve god to obtain 'salvation' is not true then right? If you take everyones beliefs into account that is.

Coleslaw not logged in Guest | You can neither prove nor disprove the existence of a supreme being, however, all discernible evidence and logic points to the absence of one.
A few posts from a discussion on religion from a forum that I frequent sums up the issue quite nicely:
Osmium wrote:
I feel the epistemological, metaphysical, and empirical problems of religion weigh heavily in favor of atheism.
Osmium wrote:
While it’s true that an afterlife can logically exist without a deity, the world we live in almost certainly has no afterlife. The degree to which you are conscious of anything correlates directly with the amount of activity going on in your brain. Your brain activity, which can be measured by MRI, PET, and other neuro-imaging methods, is responsible for your consciousness. The mind is entirely a product of the brain and cannot conceivably be thought to exist outside of it. The belief in an afterlife is a very anthropocentric view: it presumes that we, as humans, are somehow exempt from nature’s laws and can — in some form — survive indefinitely. But that’s not the way it works, unfortunately. At the end of life is an eternal place of oblivion and rest.
The theory of a grand creator is incoherent.
Also, I’d like to take the time to point out that Itachi Uchiha is a colossal moron who should not be taken seriously (though if you weren’t already aware of this, then you probably need help dressing yourself in the morning).
petrofsky - the idea that religious people are generally unhappy is an incredibly flawed assumption.

No I was not making that assumption. Iticha was saying god makes people who belive in him happy, and I was disproving him.

Coleslaw not logged in Guest | Yes, I wholly disagree with Itachi’s statement, but if I recall correctly you said something about African Americans being religious and unhappy, as if the two had anything to do with each other.
Also, regarding religious poor people and religious addicts/alcoholics: as opposed to what? Non-religious poor people and non-religious druggies? Religion has very little to do with it. However, if we are talking about global conflicts (e.g. sectarian violence in Iraq), then I would agree with the sentiment that religion (particularly differences in doctrine - such as the rift between Sunni and Shia Islam - and extremist interpretations) breeds misery.

Itachi was saying that God grants happiness if you believe in him. I was saying african americans today in poverty are very religeous, but God is not granting happiness to them.
Religeous addicts want to stop, but God wont grant it.
