I watched the video and sent petrofsky an e-mail with a few short observations, but I’d summarize my opinion thusly: Bob Larson is an incredible idiot, but the so-called social darwinist’s ideas are fantasy. A police state built upon social darwinist ideology? Really? And how exactly does he intend to create such a state, while maintaining the original ideals?
The analogy to Africa was particularly stupid (especially considering the state of many African nations today) and the idea that the world would be better off without all the Christians doesn’t take into account a number of factors. Yes, overall Christianity has had a negative impact on the world, but I think that in this modern age of science, people are growing more and more secular (at least in Europe). In Norway, for example, a good deal of the population are members of the state church, but a only a very small percentage of the population (somewhere between 5 and 15 percent) actually attend church. Simply put, Christianity is losing its influence, if not in the United States, then certainly in Europe. Anyway, I’m digressing a bit - his “ideal state” would be idiotic and would ultimately fail (at least in the United States/on a global scale). Besides, who’s to decide whether or not person X is unfit to live and a burden on society? I’m firmly against the whole “cleansing of society” ideology that he espouses, but at the same time, I’ve thought about less extreme measures like eugenics. Eh, that was a bit rambling, but I hope that the main idea is at least clear.
