It is very very well known across the planet, won awards, and was one of the most original gang movies I have seen.
It’s not that well known it didn’t to many awards and it’s not even about gangs

We know but... so was almost everyone in the movie. The only person I felt sorry for in the entire film was the Author’s wife and the Prison Priest. Apart from that they were all rotten bastards. Even the Author who had his wife beaten and raped, was a maniac who was well prepared to kill and torture Alex just to prove a political point. His parents just kicked him out onto the street alone after returning home from 2 years prison and horrid therapy, just so they could pay the fucking rent.
There are 3 good people in this movie, The Authors wife, the Priest at the Prison and that Cat Lady who got beaten to death with a giant, ceramic penis (fucking ROFL).

Hey, it’s but a movie. You do not think I enjoy rape and random assaults in real life, do you? Besides, after all this entertainment, it still managed to carry a philosophy with it, that it is morally wrong to control a human being, and that forcing someone to leave evil doesn’t make them any more good.

One Alex is hardly a gangster and even so it’s far from a gangster movie gangster movies are like Scarface,Godfather,Menace 2 Society,Boys in the Hood, like that ACWO is far from that

Plot wise, yes it is far from it.
