Here we go again with the assumption that I don’t respect theists. Listen, what you have seen on the forums are much different from real life. You can’t really get to know a person on these forums as well as real life, you can’t share stupid laughs or anything like that. This is a debate, not a get together. I’m not going to treat people in a debate the same way as I do my friends.

Well, yesterday, I was sitting in my science class and we had a substitute. Now he is a pretty cool substitute and all, but yesterday he kind of sounded to condencending for his own religion while he totally misrepresented another.
He is apparently, really anti Islam. Not like the “I want to slaughter every Muslim” but the kind who thinks it’s a religion of pure terror and non morality. Now even if you disagree with Islam, you know it’s not PURE evil, I mean come now. Their would be NO ISLAM if they had no marility and they were barbaric suicide bombers.
This guy was one of those really devoted christians, and one who is holds steriotypes against all religions other than his own.
Also, While coming up with this I thought back to Gplex’s thread about respect for religions and I think I finally have something good.
We don’t nessicarily have to respect the religions, but I think we can accept them as long as it does not teach things like “Kill everyone’s babies and do whatever the hell you want even if it is against the law." or something. Also I think we can also respect people in religion.
I’m sure you can agree with me Gplex and Matt, to some degree. I mean, I’m sure you know Christians who are really cool people and you can get along with and be friends with. You can respect those people for who they are. For instance, my parents are both Christian but I respect and love them.
A few of my friends are christians and I can respect them. Even this subsititute I have, he is a cool person to talk to most of the time and he tells very interesting stories. I respect him.
I hope everyone can at least come to agreement here. That the people who practice these religions CAN indeed be respected. Now, I’m not saying respect people like Osama Bin Laden(He claims to be Islamic but I hear that what he does isn’t allowed in Islam.
wow. that was like the last way i expected that to end when i started reading that. thanks dude. that was really cool. just one comment, you were saying its kind of the die hard christian viewpoint to equate islam with terrorism, but i’d say its mainly the american way at this point. i mean, christians may be a bit more agro. because islam and christianity are really close, but it seems that there are a lot of people with that viewpoint.

I never said you shouldn’t debate or treat anyone like your friends. You should just debate with a civil manner. Actually though, this was in responce to Gplex’s thread about why should he respect religion. I included you incase you did have the same viewpoint as Gplex.

Well they way he was talking he wasn’t trying to be a patriot. He said that we are fighting for Jesus Christ, but your right, It is America’s steriotype for the most part.
For this guy though, I guess when it comes to his religious views, you can’t disagree with him.

I didn’t say you disrespected Theists in real life or on here, I’m saying this is the answer to the questions you and Gplex were asking about religious intolerance.
Nah. They are both atheists. Thats about the only thing in common besides believing in evolution, the big bang and stuff like that. But no, I wouldn’t say Gplex=Matt.

Gplex and Ramuenmatt I think you need to read what Chibi has said.
be nice if you quote what he said...

I would bring up all the barbaric things his religion has done in the pass.

So now you say as long as it fits into the views of modern day “laws” (or views because thats what they are) they are alright. Im sorry you failed, made a paradox that would force all beliefs to reform to current day beliefs, so if we do this we get rid off all religions, or rewrite them.

Respecting a person and respecting their beliefs in 2 diffrent things, beliefs change all the time, that person will always be that person.

I respect his beliefs just as muchs as I respect religious beliefs, but I would trust you over him any day.. can you not see the diffrence?
