UBER 1337 Poster Rep: 50  Joined: 17 Jan 2007 Posts: 4,868 OFFLINE | Since I started cristising religion on this forum, I’ve been told to respect the kkk, nazis, and every other belief. Ive been told that I hate religious people. That I would kill religious people. That I would make fun of handicap people. Ive been told that Im evil. That I am a monkey, ape, a grape (roll eyes). Told that I should “shut the fuck up”, as if somehow that refutes everything I’ve been saying. Ive been told out of this forum that Im a racist, for criticizing islam (which isnt a race by the way) and when refuted, they become abusive.
My question is why do the majority of religious people on this forum feel the need to vilify those who criticize your beliefs? Why can you not come at me with logic and some reasoning like treeplanter has?
Itachi, please don’t respond to this by saying something about evolution, or naming a few atheist who thought they could use religious dogma to take over the world.

I don’t know why people do what they do gplex, I guess it’s just in certain people’s nature. You can’t go though life without having someone criticize you, or try to discriminate against you. That’s just how life can be for some people.

Advising, more or less, much like you were doing.
Either way, even though I know I am likely a partial contributor to the reason behind the topic and the criticism, I don’t find it right. At the same time, religious people can also be saying such things back at you as a feeling of defence for their being criticized. As Nihilus said, it’s a type of nature. They feel you are attacking their beliefs, and they naturally retaliate. In the end, even if it doesn’t seem right, it isn’t without reason either.

We never said that. You went along in an exaggerated manner claiming that if everyone should have to respect Christianity, Islam etc. why shouldn’t they all have to respect stuff like Nazis and the KKK. We answered by saying that, even if there are some bad things in religion, most religions have some good in them and deserve respect, and a lot of the followers do too. Things like Nazism and the KKK do not, and you don’t tend to have “moderate” members of the KKK or Nazis either, but you will always have an average joe Christian or Muslim who is just trying to live his life and only has his religion as a sort of side thing which doesn’t rule his life. I for one, said beliefs that are stupid shouldn’t be treated the same as beliefs that are evil.

Well, then they have some sort of a problem then. You are only trying to give your opinion on the situation at hand. Even so, you cannot just think that certain people will not jump to the offensive sometimes. You are not the only person here who has been accused of thing, that I can assure you.
