They could, but it would not be easy. The Jedi defeated the Yuuzhan Vong, a species that was not affected nor could be sense through the force, making them harder to defeat.

Don’t you technically destroy his armor though? Then again, you get to keep the mask.
Read the comics, Darth Krayt found his holocron, and he was asked by Krayt how he retained his consciousness.
