When I ask for my own threads that I created to be deleted they get locked instead? I ask for a deletion for a reason. (Not an attack on the mods)

It’s usually just the quick way to get rid of threads. Deletion is kind of a last resort.

Yeah but unless it really needs a deletion, than we just lock.

It’s his thread. It should be his decision.

If it was his decision, he’d have the power to delete it, now wouldn’t he?

Actually this brings up a good point about differences in moderating styles. In www when I see junk/spam threads I just delete them. I figure no one’ll miss them. I think in the lounge, because it happens more often, mods lock the thread to retain evidence of mischief. I haven’t heard Bjarne decree a final ruling on the matter, so until then it seems to be left at the moderator’s discretion.

If the thread needs to be locked because of rule breaking I understand that but if the creator asks that it be deleted and it has nothing to do with rule breaking then it should be deleted.

This brings me to something else. Some rulebreaking threads should be deleted for the safety of the site and not just locked.

If a user wants their thread deleted/locked for a viable reason, it should be done so in the manner they request.

/thread
