alright, as you all know, i know notyhing about metal, and, i like to learn(lie), i am going to post metal bands ive heard, and metal experts know, or should know, what they are.
Hatebreed is metalcore, a fusion of hardcore punk, and some thrash metal and groove influence. It is not exactly metal, but has tie ins.
Metalcore is characterized by a screaming vocalist like in Hatebreed, Atreyu, and Bullent For My Valentine. It is also characterized with quick pace, and power chord structured guitar riffs. I personally hate metalcore.
If you want to know what metal is, you need to understand the characteristics, which differ from genre to genre.
New Wave Of British Heavy Metal
Characterized by operatic vocalist and a lot of rock influence. This is where the first signs of metal began.
Power Metal
Characterized with NWOBHM’s operatic vocalist, but with a faster and ore aggressive and atmospheric tone. The guitars and instruments are more epic, and more classical influence is introduced. Overall, it is “epic."
Thrash Metal
Best characterized with shouting vocalist, very fast pace, double bass drumming, more bass guitar, technical guitar style, and angry hateful tone.
Doom Metal
Best charactized as slow. The vocalist differs. Doom Metal is easily fused with other genres. The vocalist can be singing, growling, screaming, shouting, whispering, etc. Just keep in mind it is very very fucking slow and depressive.
Black Metal
Characterized with either a high pitch screaming, or raspy screaming vocalist, Black Metal has lyrics dealing with hate and the occult. It is very atmospheric.
Death Metal
Characterized with the infamous growling vocal style. Guitars and drums are extremely technical. The pace is very fast and the emotion ranges from band. (Not to be confused with deathcore)
