Darkseid uses the anti-life equation on Miracle, but he doesn’t know that the New Gods recreated him to be immune to it, and even beyond death. When that doesn’t work Darkseid uses the Omega Sanction forcing Miracle to life multiple lives in his head more twisted and dark then the last one.
Darkseid explains he did this on purpose, and that Orion had no chance really against him. He wasn’t sure if he would come back, but he was willing to risk it
He actually admits later he could have easily killed Orion, but pretended to even die to further stain his soul so that Darksied and him could rule the universe. Orion actually now has the anti-life equation.
