hell yeah! people were able to do real time ray-tacing with only 9GB of processing power. imagine wut they can do with 1,000GB of processing power!!! and it’s still years before the next gen of gaming console...

It’ll be crazy. Shame i prbly won’t be getting these new chips for a while though.
I highly doubt this card can effectively do ray tracing, and it doesn’t even matter because the Direct3D API doesn’t support that shit.
If multiple computers take maybe an hour to render a single frame with ray tracing, plus everything else, I fail to see how this one card could do 60 frames in one second.
Still, impressive as fuck. I can’t wait to see how it handles Crysis, but I hope it doesn’t strangle PSU’s and CPU’s.

if this really, REALLY pushes gaming to the next level faster then most anticipated, the next gen consoles will be out soon, even Sony’s.

Um...It won’t do real time ray tracing.
Took 3 PS3’s to render a fucking car with ray tracing and nothing else. And this was IBM doing it, who can actually milk the Cell for everything Sony bragged about, considering they made the damn thing.

Well, Sony was also stating the PS3 will utilize the full power of the Cell. Which we know it can’t simply because of code and other other hardware limitations. They were right though, the Cell is a freakin beast.

cell is a beast but not for games
That’s what I’m saying.

Developers generally can’t access the full potential of any hardware, because of not only development environment limitations but also human limitations. But I agree. Any single-core CPU that can pretty much go neck and neck, or outdo, a triple-core CPU clocked at the same speed is impressive.
Same goes for this new GPU. The demos will probably be more than the games will, for awhile. Not to say that we won’t see some amazing shit, because we will, but the GPU is merely offering a new level of processing strength, which is only PART of what makes a graphics card tick. If memory still stays around the 1GB range and pipelines don’t increase, and if PCIe slots don’t improve dramatically, then it won’t matter if we have 1 Teraflop because it only does so much.
I wonder if AMD plans to have game run the program moreso on the card than the PC as a whole...
