Me thinks you don’t know what a real Berserker actually is.
It’s heavily debated that the original Berserkers were just drunk and/or tripping on psychoactive substances. They were used as shock troops to scare the enemies and break lines. Fierce warriors sure, but they hardly had concern for their safety and were anything but organized...
That being said, while the Berserkers would fight boldly, the Spartans would mop the floor with them.
Afterwards, the Spartans would give them honorary burial for their bravery.

Not that I disagree, which I don’t, but how’s that?

How’s what?
How can the Spartans defeat the Berserkers?
Their phalanx should be sufficient I assume. And they are actually coherent during the battle. I assume the berserker scare tactic won’t work so well on the Spartans, so then you’re left with a bunch of drunk enraged soldiers with no order or harmony to their attack.
I don’t know what the numbers are suppose to be in terms of the army sizes, but if they fought with equal numbers of men, the Spartan’s would win. They would take plenty of losses of course because of the Berserkers blatant disregard for their lives, but it wouldn’t be enough to win.

I see what you mean, not to mention that the Spartans have an amazing defense.
i think some people were seriously brainwashed into thinking the spartans were the greatest army in the world there are plenty of armies that would wipe the floor with the spartans not counting armies of today but armies of the past

er... I’d say the same thing about the roman imperial army. I don’t think the Spartans are the greatest army in the world. They were just very organized and very well trained soldiers. This has nothing to do with Frank Miller’s “300”. I think you are giving far too much credit to the berserkers.
This topic is about just an army of berserkers against an army of Spartans... Spartans would win.
The berserkers would be mowed down down by the Spartans archers and calvery. By the time they made it to the rest of the Spartans, they’d just end up getting crushed against their phalax while the rest of the calvary hammer them from behind. It would be a slaughter.
if this escalated to a open field battle where ranks and positions fall apart(dont know if that is an actual term or if it means what i am trying to say)and where its ever man for themselves the berserkers would win trough pure strenght and violence
..... what?! If it’s an open field battle, the Spartans would still win. Everyman for themselves?! The Spartans didn’t fight as everyman for himself.... thats why they won. It’s that kind of organization that transfered over to the roman army, and then medieval combat, and then to Cossacks style combat.
Berserkers didn’t have to be the biggest and strongest warriors to be a berserker. There is no reason to think one berserker would always win... or even most of the time win against a single Spartan. one big weapon isn’t nessesarily better than a big shield and gladius. Infact, a shield and gladius is more effective, and proven to be so.
Lets recap before we get carried away. There were no special conditions that state that the battle has to be a mass tangle of bodies swinging angerly at each other. This topic just asked about Berserkers vs Spartans. This makes me assume that the Spartan army gets to fight like a Spartan army, and the army berserkers get to be themselves. Spartans win man.

no this is who would win in a battle(s) the spartans were good as an organized army but what if there ranks fell apart how would they fight? i am guessing the berserkers dont like fighting in organized ranks anyways so they have advantages if the spartan army fell out of rank

Since when has the Spartan Army fell out of rank? They fought to the last man. They never back down, no giving up, no surrendering. They were taught to never give up during a fight, something a movie doesn’t tell you.

yes but lets say there army fell out of rank what would happen? they would not fight as good as they usually do when they fight as a organized army
