Rep: 52  Joined: 03 May 2006 Posts: 7,352 | Ok to address the original topic - Nazi I do not agree that we should “stop helping developing countries”, but I do agree that simply throwing money at them is not the best solution, nor has it proven to be the best solution.
The problem is too complex to simply throw money at it and hope that it will go away. And also if money is just given with no follow-through, there is a huge risk that it will simply be taken by corrupt governments or by those who are already wealthy.
There needs to be more of an emphasis on more programs for “sustainability”.
Now, to address your idea that people in developing nations are “lazy”...I’m sorry but that is a statement that shows little thought given to this issue. I’m really not sure what you are basing your opinion on, but in many villages where there is no plumbing, no wells, and no nearby clean water, women have to spend hours of their day walking to the nearest water source. Then they have to carry heavy jugs of water all the way back...and this doesn’t even include preparing the meal(s) for the day. That really doesn’t sound “lazy” to me. In fact I think many of us who are used to computers, dishwashers, grocery stores, indoor plumbing, etc. would not last long in such an environment. I know I wouldn’t.
Also, I see it as an ethical duty. There are multiple factors in why certain nations are the “have-nots”, but one factor is the past and continued exploitation of the natural and labour resources of particular countries. Not to mention past colonization. To not now take some sort of responsibility would be rather like running over to your neighbour’s house, kicking in their TV, wrecking all their electronic equipment and running away without paying. ---

N in ETHIOPIA....watever u can have 1 million workers in ur hand u can`t make a farm...cuz of desert ground...!! So there,even they will try hard than others...they can do nothing but death...!! Lesson you don’t even know for sure if we are helping those countries. how do you know government officals aren’t just spending the money we give on other things.
You have no compassion if we did stop giving than the world would basically collapse because we depend on a lot of tose third world countries for our resources.
