Well it’s a really old cult hit back on the NES. Then there was a GB game. And of course its recently been revived by the SSB series. It’s been denoted numerous times as one of the games that seriously needs a 3d upgrade and it’s finally getting it.

I don’t know. I find Metroid to be by far one of Nintendo’s weakest series. I played it but I never could figure out how it was so different from other games besides the ball form. I mean the puzzles weren’t really puzzles and were a breeze. I understand the first Metroid had some influence but that’s about it.
Mario and the first Donkey Kong make even the first Metroid look like shit.
I don’t know how they would pull off another Kid Icarus. It’s not like Mario and like Metroid it’s one of Nintendo’s apparently weaker titles. It’s not even a series yet.
Kid Icarus would have to be vastly different from other games to catch my attention.

Blasphemy haha. Well that’s simply one man’s opinion but I think things in Metroid games especially the first and then Prime have had some of the most innovative features I’ve ever seen in a game. The Prime games were weak, besides the DS version. You have to admit not every Nintendo game is great or Mario Calibur. Mario is way too high up there for Metroid to even think of being like that. Easy puzzles, weak story, and the usual boss battles. Ball form was the only difference it had from other games. Everything I experienced in Prime I experienced in various other games before it.
It’s not even in the top ten shooters. It was influential but there are much better shooters. Most were originally PC series though. Doom was good but the series sucks now. Battlefield completely blows away any modern combat game and even Metroid. Call of Duty 2 was amazing but now it’s all old. Rainbow Six. The first game is shit now but it was amazing. You could choose were your men enter from and you could go about thing in so many different ways. It was very tactical. It is sad they took that out of later games in the series. The first Far Cry, etc.
I know Metroid would be one of the first series Nintendo would drop. Zelda and Mario have it outclassed.
I don’t think a cross of Zelda and God of War would make Kid Icarus any different. What they need is a fully interactive game with maybe some Kingdom Hearts-like gameplay mixed in for the fighting. I have yet to see anybody come out with a fully interactive game where anything and everything can be interacted with and the world can be changed in numerous ways with every little detail taken in to consideration. Oblivion lacked that. You could pick objects. Not much else. Everything else was scripted. GTA definitely lacked that.

Well the original Metroid was simply amazing. I mean it was really unlike any game ever. I mean had a dynamic storyline, non linear gameplay, and combined elements of many different genres of the time. It was truly unlike anything before it. Even Zelda was differentiated from it, although Zelda showed us something different as well.
Metroid Prime however came in and completely turned around a genre, the FPS genre and still til this date nothing has been like that genre except for it. Not to mention is was fantastic. I mean give credit where credit is due. Those 2 games are some of the most revolutionary not only of their time, but of the entire industry.
Now of course not all Nintendo games are Mario calibur and we see that all the time. But Metroid is mario calibur.
The first Metroid was influential and maybe even Metroid II but the Primes did absolutely nothing to change fps. It wasn’t even nonlinear. It was just an illusion. The layout was like GTA III with an open world but what was there to do? You just do the story in a linear fashion like any other game before it and you and scan things as you go along. Far Cry was like that it wasn’t areas or separate rooms and it was an island, etc. GTA III came out long before Prime and that was truly a nonlinear shooting game. I hate GTA III. The mechanics and everything were outdated so fast but that was the nonlinear shooting game. Prime wasn’t. GTA takes the cake for nonlinear shooting. I’m not saying it’s that great a game. I actually think all the games are crap, including GTA IV. I’m just giving credit to the games and people who deserve them. I also give Rockstar credit for being complete dumbasses fro their coffee crap.
It’s story was complete crap. Most video game’s stories are complete crap. That’s because gameplay always interferes with story. It was such a typical sci-fi story like the cheap shows seen on tv.
I am giving credit were credit is due but when every series Nintendo has or every game in a particular series is given credit for something it’s ridiculous. It’s like everybody else did shit while Nintendo did everything. Nintendo did a lot but not that much.
It’s the king of platformers but not shooters.
Maybe no game has been like Metroid or tried to mimic it for a reason. It’s not very good. It’s just not influential since no game is ever like it or tries to be like it.
The 2-D Metroids may have been influential games but after that it all fell apart. GoldenEye is a Mario calibur game. Metroid is just a joke now or we’re saying pretty much every game is mario calibur.
I LOVE the game, especially the version but I admit it’s just not that great.

Metroid Prime 1 didn’t really have all that much of a story... Pretty much you just had to reach the Giant Enemy Crab and defeat it. It was pretty damn fun though.

I actually liked Metroid Prime. It was a good game.
I am just making it clear and emphasizing that it is not the king of shooters and isn’t all that and isn’t anywhere near the level Zelda and Mario are on. When I said joke I was comparing it to it’s older games in the series. It’s somewhat like the Mario Party games (I hate them) which are a joke compared to the real Mario games.
Or you can say it’s like Call of duty. There have been so many Call of Duty games that they’re a joke now. It’s the same WWII experience over and over again.
I actually like Call of duty 2 more than Call of Duty 4.
A fresh IP? That sounds good. That’s what Nintendo should be doing. I just hope it focuses more on more mature things. Sort of like Zelda TP.
