This is coming from someone who hardly knows anything about the game and has never even played the creature creator. So don’t even talk Squipple, because your judging a game that you’ve never even touched and know little about. Thats like PS3 fan saying how Mass Effect sucks when he’s never even played it.
So far I’ve made it to the Civ phase on hard difficulty and Im loving the game. The game is really hard as hell...well on hard anyways lol. I died a ton of times so far, even in the cell phase (goddamn big cells cornering me >_>.
I enjoy most sandbox games, but this game has something to it that makes me enjoy it even more. I think that it’s the evolution factor and the ability to guide a race of species that you customly made from cell to space.
The game is a sandbox game so it kind of doesn’t really have a point other than to build, but Spore adds something into it’s sandbox gamplay style which sort of gives you a main goals. But each goal is different for each stage. In cell and creature, your main goal is to evolve. In triabl and civ, your main goal to convert/wipe out all other tribes. And in Space, your main goal to reach the center of the galaxy.
If you play the game you’ll easily notice this, unless you have some sort of mental problem.
So, having played as far into the game as I have I’d say that it really isn’t pointless, and it’s fun. But you also must remember that I love games with creativity (or sandbox games).

And its also coming from someone who’s in the space stage, took probably over an hour creating each building, creature, and ship.
Yeah, its a pointless game, but still fun at the same time. Sure, you have goals, but they’re just there to get your creations moving. And really, they’re boring as hell and wouldn’t last if it weren’t for the creation aspect. The only redeeming gameplay modes are the cell stage and the space stage. The other ones are short, easy, and a chore.
Really, it wasn’t worth it for the gameplay, it was worth it for creating a creature and watching it evolve. Its not really even a sandbox game, because you aren’t put into a large world to do whatever you want. You are put into a goal-oriented world with the ability to create and alter your character in it.
Generally, all of Will Wright’s games are just toys to play around with. This is no exception. And, that’s all you need.
And unless the game changes drastically on hard than from normal, its probably still not that tough.

Actually you do have a main goal in each satge, and no im not talking about the little tasks it asks you to do. Those are more like side goals. The main goal in the early stages is to evolve. Then it changes to conquering other tribes/cities. And finally in Space phase, the goal is to reach the center of the galaxy.
As for the gameplay elements, Im actually liking them so far. I mean sure it’s not revolutionary or anything, but that doesn’t stop it from being fun. I personally found the tribal stage to be the best so far.
I haven’t tried any of the other difficulties yet. Im not sure if it’s becuase I hardly evolved, or if it was becuase the difficulty was on hard, but I died a lot in the stages I’ve been in so far. I mean it’s not like it’s unbeatable or anything, it’s just I expected it to be easier from what I’ve seen in videos.

Anyways so far I’ve found the civ phase to be pretty easy...even on hard. But I think it’s mainly becuase Im use to rushing people in RTS’s and thats pretty much what Im doing in Civ phase .

Well, I just now got space ships. Nervin told me to search my moon to see if his creatures were there. Unfortunatly this was all I could find on my moon...
