Tell me, how could Zuko and Zhao fight barechested like that, without getting even slightly singed? Firebending redirects the brunt of the attack, but there’s still the matter of the flames whipping around them. The only way they could avoid injury is some kind of natural fire resistance. I’m not saying that Zuko is completely immune to fire, just resistant, like how earthbenders are resistant to getting hit with earth.
Roy may affect air, but Zuko still control fire, and can still attack or defend. And he’s blocked Combustion Man’s blasts, which are on the same level as Mustang’s blast.
do you understand what controlling the density of oxygen could do to a fire? and no roy is way more powerful than combustion man. zuko wouldnt know what hit him when roy changes the density.
Do you understand that Zuko supernaturally controls fire? So the density of oxygen changes, Zuko stil controls the fire.
Combustion Man=Roy. Roy+Philosopher’s stone>CM. But he doesn’t have a stone in this fight. | |

zuko can only control the fire, not the oxygen, he can also manafest fire, while roy creates it using the sparks his gloves give off when he rubs them by snapping or anything.
roy has other forms of alchemy too, but fire happens to be his favorite and specialty. | |

nowhere in the avitar series, that i know of, has it stated that it was done by magic, the nations mimic different animals with these abilities (in the water tribe its actually the moon)
i.e, Dragons, BadgerMoles, and FlyingBison.
