GN: We believe this new DS-i will meet the specs previously reported by Nikkei — namely, slightly bigger,built-in camera, SD card support, etc.

Says that Nintendo believes it can continue to expand the market with this newest of devices. The DS-i will be smaller and will also lose the GBA cart slot from previous versions of the handheld.

The DSi is 3.25 inches. Features a built-in three-megapixel camera (and you’ll be able to edit pictures using the touch-screen). MP3-playback functionality (and you’ll be able to change the pitch and playback speed of MP3s with the touch-screen). There’s an SD memory card slot. Meanwhile, you’ll be able to buy and download games to internal memory using “Nintendo Points.

I hate to see Ninty moving the GBA slots out of their products. But I suppose it had to be done sooner or later.

The system will include the DS browser software and access to the online Nintendo DS Shop, where you will be able to wirelessly download Nintendo DSWare. Software will be separated into four categories: Free, 200 Points, 500 Points and Premium (800 Points). Nintendo is offering 1,000 free Points through March of 2010.

Nervin yea I’m wondering how GH is going to work on the DS or not. Or how to play old school games. But I guess that’s what the download service is for and I’m guessing the GH thing can be adapted for the SD card slot or something.

If you connect even once to the Shop by March 2010, Nintendo will give you 1,000 free Points as a present.

DSi will be released in white, matte black, and will go on sale November 1 for 18900 yen ($180 U.S.). This is only for Japan.

American date will probably be announced when the American conference happens.

14:19: Gemaga says that they’ve just shown a demo reel of DS games that will be out before the end of the year. Also, as I predicted, they’re now going to do a demo of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time, the new DS slash Wii game.

Haha I had no idea they’d preview 3rd party games here haha.

The DS portion of the conference is over. Now, they are doing a sizzle real for upcoming Wii and DS software in 2008.

They are introducing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time, a game that is playable on both Wii and DS — similar, we suppose, to a title like Four Swords.
