I can’t deal with the disingenuous campaign ads, the continuous lies, the mudslinging, the bullshit reasons to vote, the overall idioticy from the politicians and for what? Politicians who don’t give a shit about you in the first place and will never be able to make any change because politicians aren’t trained to solve problems, just to make laws, establish budgets, declare war, and get richer while the rest of America has to suffer from the current economic crisis that is way out of their hands and will never get any better unless we abolish the monetary system completely.
I may just be blowing off steam, but I have yet to see one good reason why democracy is a good form of government, even though we technically don’t have a democracy, we have a Plutocracy which is basically ruled by the rich, for the rich. That’s what we have. I want to know if anybody else felt like the world was ending after watching those two liars speak on the last presidential debate. Did anybody else feel atomic bombs dropping when Obama spoke about economic reform, or when McCain was blathering about his conservative record? Did anybody else feel, “god damn, this shit is fucking hopeless” like I did?
All the time I hear people say, “if you don’t vote then you have no right to criticize or complain”, but I disagree. I don’t believe people aren’t voting because they’re apathetic, I believe they aren’t voting because they don’t think either candidate deserves office! McCain is an idiot and Palin is worse, and these two motherfuckers might be the voice of America for the next four years! And if the old hag dies, which he probably will, then we get a fucking hockey mom as our next president! That shows just how poor our system is. We are so deeply rooted in the system that most of us don’t even think to criticize democracy. It’s always, “if you don’t support democracy then your a communist”, “if you don’t support democracy your anti-American” or even “if you don’t support democracy then get out of my country”. If you are the kind of person that only votes because you want the lesser of two evils, the Obama is your guy. But the lesser of two evils is still evil. Obama speaks so eloquently, that I almost forgot he was a liar. That’s all politicians are. They are paid to lie to you. They are paid to destroy entire civilizations and take away all your money and all your rights and say, “Welcome to America! The land of the free!" even though we’re not free, we’re never going to be free, yet people still decide to vote these rich cocksuckers into office because they grow up not questioning a single thing, because that’s not American. The American way is to not question. Don’t question voting, don’t question our government, don’t question our governments policies, don’t question any wars, don’t question what you see in the newspapers, etc. This is strictly a concept, but imagine an election where nobody votes. It would give a chance for real change and new ideas. It’s obviously not going to happen though, but the light bulb is dimming and our system will burn out eventually. I don’t want my vote. I’m forfeiting it. Because I want something else, and this is the only way to go about it.[/end rant]
Not voting is what they want ya to do. Actually usually a tactic candidates will use is trying to slim the voting populous by making the campaigns more brutal than usual. This usually turns people off from voting, as it has done for you. Thus with less it gives more chance of select few deciding which has a better chance of going their way. In this case its McCain trying to do this with all his Attack ads and brutal attacks within the debates to hopefully get some Obama voters to not vote.
Now it’s a good tactic but by not voting you are doing what they want. The best way to not show support of the 2 if you don’t like both is to vote for someone on the list. Many people say it means nothing but it does make a statement that you don’t have to vote for them.
And who knows what the best form of government is. But as Americans, we live in a society where we have so many freedoms. All we have to do is uphold personal responsibility and political responsibility. To maintain those rights we have to keep putting pressure on our politicians. As a famous quote goes it is not people who should fear their government but governments that should fear their people.

You really do need to vote, it doesn’t matter who you vote for either...hell even mccain and palin are better than these two people we have in office right now. So just please vote because your vote can help us right now no matter who it is.
Ok I just want to point this out but what you say is “Plutocracy” which you must be talking about an aristocracy is were the strong rule, such as a military leader, not the rich. What your talking about is an oligarcy. Sorry just wanted to point that out.

I can never participate in a system where deceitful and disingenuous tactics like that are allowed and used. If they’re going to be deceitful and disingenuous in their campaigns, chances are they are going to be the exact same way when they’re in office. These very same people are going to rule over you and be the voice of America.
And yeah, I know I have the choice not to vote for either of the two main candidates, but I realized that voting alone is endorsing our system. If you vote you are supporting our government. They need people to vote otherwise our system would fall apart. And who’s there to make sure it doesn’t crumble? The voters. Voting for politicians who give themselves pay raises, start costly and unnecessary wars, and take away our freedoms. Our economy is doing so bad right now, no politician will be able to do anything about it. Politicians aren’t the answer. They can’t bring real change, and that’s why I find it pointless to vote.
And no, I’m not a Communist and Read This If Your Mom Sucked My Dick, you might want to double check what a Plutocracy is. They are very similar though so I don’t blame you for making that mistake.
But the real question is...will you be doing something to change the system? Because if not, then all you’re doing is letting those that do vote (the affluent of society are the most likely to vote) have the biggest say while doing nothing to curb their power.
(similar to what Zucas was saying)
The Canadian elections this year saw the worst voter turn out in some 20 years. Everybody pretty much felt that the election was pointless and the leaders weren’t much better.
What an interesting message it would have sent though, if say 40% of the populous voted for the Green Party for instance. A four or fifth ranked party to say “hey! the main parties suck and we want change!".
By not voting it just meant that we got another conservative minority government and the message that was sent was that people weren’t interested.
But lack of interest doesn’t make change, it just perpetuates the system.
[side]
Get this, last year the province of Ontario got the option of voting for electoral reform (how often does that happen!). We were given the option of changing to a representative election system (meaning that every vote counts).
Well, the bill lost. The provincial government in power rushed the process and didn’t inform the public very well on what they were voting for.
People don’t like change or the unknown.
[/side]
How will you support change? The process doesn’t know the difference between a non-vote of apathy or a non-vote of protest. How will you make a difference?
And I believe when nation gets to kinda depression, more people would vote. Look at Bill Clinton era as example. There were not many voters compared to past.

damn, i know, right? if only we were free, we could go on some sort of mass system of machines connected together to talk and rant about how we hate the current government to everyone willing to hear, and with no government able to stop us. to bad that will never be a reality.

you’re such a hxc anarchist dude fight the power.
oh wait you’re just going to whine and moan about it?
You’re on par with people who complain they have bad grades when they just never do their work.
But far be it for me to say you can’t bitch about supposedly not being free. I mean hell you’ve got such insight! Don’t question wars or newspapers or what the politicians say even though that is exactly what every news program does exactly.
So who WOULD you like running the country? A total jackoff who knows nothing about nothing? I mean here you are complaining about people who have served in wars or have fucking graduated from harvard and you act like they’re just out to fuck you over for living.
Honestly you’re so pessimistic I wouldn’t be surprised if you just decided to kill yourself, because with that kind of outlook on life you will never, ever be satisfied.
The first step is raising awareness. What you may see as whining/moaning whatever is no different from awareness that is gathered from organizations that are against breast cancer, AIDS, world hunger, etc. because unless you have dictatorial power, you are not going to accomplish anything by yourself.
watermelon man wrote:

That’s basically what we have running our country right now. Ironic isn’t it?
btw, assuming that I would end up killing myself... that is way more pessimistic than anything I have said so far. Assuming or believing one would kill themselves is just about as pessimistic as you can get with an individual.
