It was just a suggestion. Try to make it look like you could have cared less about him. Do what ever it takes to make him realise that he not only lost a girlfriend but also a good friend. If you haven’t tried taalking to him about it you should do that. You could still be friends. Plus, if you try to be friends and he doesn’t, it will make him look like an insensitive ass hole.

I understand. It is hard, but you need to think to yourself, do you realy want to go on dwelling on that one person, or do you want to go and try and find someone new. Or even just give him time and then go and talk to him again. You are never going to loose your feelings for him, so don’t try and pretend he never existed, just try and suppress those feelings or your next relationship will end the same way sooner or later. Or just talk to someone about him and it will make you feel better.
