Wannabe Rep: 0 Joined: 06 May 2005 Posts: 53 OFFLINE | 1st If you are looking for legal software, you could try freewareprograms. Just google for those sites. Try to avoid sites which offer you cracks and so. Maybe in your country there is a pc magazine which has a website. Sometimes they have a section where you can download software.
I have bought a little book or special from a pc magazine. Its filled with tons of info on freeware and what you can do with it. Maybe you can find something simular in stores in your country. Or you could buy certain mags for a couple of months. After that you will have enough information to go on for a while. You will notice that next year they start all over with their articles. So again a XP special, again a photoshop special etc. Then you stop buying them. (or continue to learn about the new programs). Sometimes freeware/shareware contains spyware too. Be carefull to read everything when you install programs. Disable added software from sponsors if you can.
2nd You could use your downloader (edonkey/emule/shareaza) to find software/music/movies. Usually downloading/sharing files is an illegal activity. However, you never know for shure what you are downloading when you enter your search.
3nd So thats why there are so-called ed2k link sites. Like www.shareprovider.com (beware of the popups!!). They dont store files, but store the names of 'controlled' files in p2p networks. Usually a crack-group posts these names in the forums there with a picture, small description of what it does, number of files, how to install etc etc.You can import those links (if your downloader is suited for that) by just clicking on them or copy/paste links.
Note that in several countries its illegal to download and/or share files. This counts for music/movies and software/programs.
4th If you start to surf more frequently on the net you will notice that its necessary to protect your pc with a decent firewall. Not just the standard XP-firewall. There are several freeware firewalls (sygate??). Get a decent virusscanner, like AVG (grisoft). Get a decent adware/spyware remover (you should try www.hitmanpro.nl but we’ve discussed that one before).
5th If you want to install and deinstall several programs, your computer will be stored with traces of old programs etc. Youll need a pc cleaner that cleans your registry for you. Like Ace Utilities (not freeware). There are 100’s of such programs to buy.
Note:
Before you start downloading things from the net (legal or illegal), you could first try to find the official website of the manufacturer. There you should be able to find info on what the software does, what system requirement there are and maybe there are free tutorials.
Note that there is no need to download every program instantly when you see it. If you have a job to do, fist google the net, try to find a matching program NOT vice versa or youll end up with 200gb+ with software. That space you could use for storing your encoded/authored movies on dont you think so?
Im not into downloading music. If i want to listen to music i turn on the radio or internetradio! I make a sport of it finding freeware tools for my tasks.
Wish women where freeware too... *sigh*
Bye bye hope this was of any use.

i suppose you have windows xp english edition.
If you want to uninstall software you have previously installed go to “Start”, “Settings”, “Add or Remove Programs”. There you can uninstall programs the legal way. Or you could try to find the place on your harddrive where the exe files are of the programs. Sometimes there is an uninstall.exe or unwise.exe too. Then you should be able to uninstall programs. Preferrably dont install programs by just deleting them, because not all parts of the software are installed in the same place but are spread out on your hd. If you are planning to install and uninstall lots of programs try to buy (?) a good system cleaner like Ace Utilities. This program allows you to sweep your system from traces of programs/files etc which dont come off your system when uninstalling.
Beware to uninstall bundled software: sometimes when installing a program you are asked if you want to install other programs from sponsors as well. Of course you dont want that. Uncheck if you can. If you cant try to find the sponsor-software in start/settings/add remove software.
Really nasty software will be deleted by your spywaresweeper if this is a good one.
Maybe this link is something for you: its about optimizing xp (and there is a section on antivirus and antispyware too) http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html
Real computer geeks tend to clean install XP every now and then. For instance every three months. I dont recommend doing so if your system is still stable and (relatively) fast.
Furthermore its allways smart to make a systemrestorepoint (see windows xp help on doing so) before doing something drastic (installing/uninstalling etc) so that you can return to previous correct system settings if that is needed.
If you are not certain on how to do these things it is wise to spend a couple of euros and go to a computer shop. They can do everything for you and they are a lot faster and better in this than you and i together. (usually)
Next time, please reply faster. I dont like waiting...

There was a lot of maintenance to do in my house so, finally i managed to kick myself under the ass to do some 'do-it-myself'-tasks. Fortunately monday is a day off here too, and its been really nice weather around here so maybe ill go to the beach or something like that. (after finishing the diy-task anyway)
i know you feel somewhat dismembered when your pc is (in a way) broken down. Thats what they call addicted!!! HAHAHAHA
