The same God that people consider all-good is credited with creating hell and banishing there all souls who do not accept Him. Yes...I have given them serious analysis and thought. But the proof is not there. I have found neither hard facts nor experiential knowledge to support other religions or belief systems. And one of the greatest proofs of Christianity for me is the experiential knowledge - my life is truly radically different than it was 5, 10 years ago. And it is nothing that I’ve done. I can’t explain it other than realizing that God’s promises through the Bible and Christ are true.
You know, one of the things that rings most true to me about Christianity is Jesus' keen observation of the human heart. He speaks more truths about the natural human condition than any one psychiatrist today. Look carefully at his writings and you’ll see that he paints a very real and accurate portrait of human tendencies. He speaks of what is inside that matters, not our actions. We all know that, even if on the surface we appear to be loving, kind, great people, we all have “skeletons in our closets” so to speak. Jesus recognized that.
And it’s not that having Jesus makes hell go away. It’s not Jesus that we need as much as it is that we need to recognize our true condition and accept the payment he made for it. Think of it this way -
You steal a car. You’re guilty. All the evidence is there. The judge sets punishment at $100,000. I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t make that kind of money! So, you can’t pay the fine, you go to jail.
But what if someone walks in the courtroom and hands the judge $100,000 on your behalf? Can you now go free? Yes! Because the law has been satisfied.
That’s what Jesus did - He paid our fine. We broke God’s laws (that were put in place for our protection - not because he’s a mean, hurtful God) and Christ took our punishment.
All other religions and belief systems say basically this:
If do good enough, if you live right, you will be accepted by God or whoever or go to heaven or be rewarded, etc. - based on performance.
Christianity is the ONLY religion that says the opposite:
You have been accepted by God, now live right as a response.
God doesn’t demand anything of us - He offers a GIFT of salvation to anyone who will accept it. And receiving this gift is what should produce a “good” life or a moral life.
i may be an athiest but in many ways religion does play a part in how i think. And the way we all think, morality and such just are part of it. I however have some so called extreme views. Often at times they have gotten me into trouble and such. As with a mass-produced culture it is expected if you are religous or not to expect peoples views to be strikingly simalar. We relly on religion often, it gives us “hope” its much like government, it tells you what is good and evil and if you believe you will relitively obey it. Of course there are exceptions but there are exceptions to ANYTHING. I may not believe in god because of probably most of all the people. If this religion was so sacred wwhy is it based on such loose terms. And if you look at it in a more realistic way, why are all these views in the bible based on the views of the time. In that and most religions women are second class, now if you ask a average cristian will they believe that?
