Good to know Weasel...for a second when I read that you claimed I thought you were a terrorist I thought you had lost it. Don’t worry...I don’t think you’re a terrorist. You may be a little fanatical, but no terrorist.

And Quakeless...
The Bible isn’t the only way you can learn about or see God:

"...since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." - Romans 1:19,20

But sir, if thats true then why is it that some societies accept poligamy and so forth, and we tell them their wrong, if they were told that they could do it by god, then why does the bible condemn it?

And yes Weasel i am a big fan of quake, but at the moment no stores stock quake 3 anymore, and seeing as how i formatted my computer, and cant fine my installation disks i am currently quakeless.

Wow, seems someone is trying to make me upset, oh well. Strictly speaking Dude 95, all the denominations of christianity (yes, even babtists) have strayed from “gods path”, as long as you dont burn any witches, allow women to talk in church or wear hats for that matter, use any kind of birth control (also includes masterbation), and feel any kind of resentment toward anyone (as is obvious by your statements toward me and weasel) then you are not following “gods path”.

Hey Quakeless...you’re right!
ALL of us (baptists, Methodists, Catholics, Jews, Buddhists, Agnostics, etc. etc.) have strayed from God’s path.
That’s one thing I’ve been trying to communicate...I (or anyone else for that matter) has no right to claim that we are morally perfect or good. I’m not condemning anyone b/c we’re all in the same boat. And if we’ve all strayed from God’s path, then who is the only one that can get us back on that path? - GOD!

Oh, hey again Weasel...
Let me ask you a question - if I was standing on the edge of a very unstable cliff about to fall to my death but had no idea would you tell me? I would hope that most people would. Why? Because it’s the most LOVING thing to do. I wouldn’t get mad or insist that you were wrong...I would listen to your advice, trusting that it was out of love and concern, not because you wanted me to be like you and not stand on the edge.

That’s one thing I’ve been trying to communicate...I’m not trying to get you to see things from a different angle just so that everyone will be Christian and I can add points to my evangelism chart. I’m sharing these things because I believe them to be true and therefore have a concern for others. I’m only trying to be true to what I believe. And I am in no way trying to harm or condemn you or anyone. Please at least know that...

By the way...I don’t even know what this website it...I just sort of came here by accident...is this a video game discussion site?
Obviously a lot more is talked about that video games!
But I’m enjoying our conversations...keep 'em up...

Phil, the problem though with god being the only one to get us back on the right path is that he seems to have decided to clam up for a couple thousand years, thats one of the reasons i dont like religions, they are all to vague, so called “holy books” are extremely vague, and people think that they can interpret them in any manor they choose. I would have more respect for a religion if the leaders just said “this is wrong, this is right, deal with it." as opposed to “you might be able to do this, or you might not be able to, now fight about it for our sick pleasure”.

I can understand that your trying to convey what you think is right, but consider some of us have heard exactly the same thing over and over again from priests, religous friends etc. so it can get kinda old, especially when it’s the same thing over and over, and they cant answer any of your questions, or even defend their point.

OF CORSE I’D TELL YOU! YOU THINK I WOULDENT BECAUSE IM NOT CHRISTION! FUCK YOU!

“trusting that it was out of love and concern, not because you wanted me to be like you and not stand on the edge."
hers the thing IM not standing at the edge of a very unstable cliff! IM standing on highly stable ground!

IT is YOU my friend that is on unstable ground! What could be more unstable then the bible! (maybe the people who believe it!)

And I don’t like what you say to my fellow gamers either! There are people who worship Quake just as amicably as the bible!

But sense you think that video games are just a complete waste of time! That is nonchristens getting along with accouter like me and Quakeless! I guess I’ll just have to throw some more water on your cooling ashes!

So what shale we talk about!

Perhaps I shall read from the BOOK OF THINGS THAT NEVER HAPPENED and see!

OH YES! The wonderful tall of the:

“TOWER OF BABLE”

Here are a few things that are wrong with this particular work! Or rather faintish fiction!

The fact that God felt threatened by the humans! God felt threatened! That doesn’t seem very GODLEE
He shouldn’t be threatened by anything!

He also said that if the humans where to billed this tower higher then they would reach heaven! Well that’s bull shit!

Let me ask you something Phil; why haven’t we found rumens of this BIGOLL tower? And why haven’t we reached heaven from ower indevers? Surly heaven cant be that far if we can reach it with a stone tower!

Weasel...STOP PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH!!!
I never said anything against gaming, gamers, etc...I have a lot of friends who are gamers...I just was not born with the video game gene...I get beat every time I play.

And so far all of your claims about the Bible have been out of context and surface level. You have to realize the connectivity of the whole Bible. You can’t just pluck out little pieces here and there and say it can’t be true. That would be like basing the entire theory of evolution on the fact that we are similar to monkeys in some ways. You just can’t do it.

And how old are you? Just curious b/c someone posted earlier something that they thought you were 30-something. (It’s an honest question...don’t take it and twist it...I’m not trying to imply anything or insult...just want to know!)

Church: God Punishing GIs Over Gays

Updated 10:16 AM ET August 28, 2005

By BETH RUCKER

SMYRNA, Tenn. (AP) - Members of a church say God is punishing American soldiers for defending a country that harbors gays, and they brought their anti-gay message to the funerals Saturday of two Tennessee soldiers killed in Iraq.

The church members were met with scorn from local residents. They chased the church members cars' down a highway, waving flags and screaming “God bless America."

“My husband is over there, so I’m here to show my support," 41-year-old Connie Ditmore said as she waved and American flag and as tears came to her eyes. “To do this at a funeral is disrespectful of a family, no matter what your beliefs are."

The Rev. Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist in Kansas, contends that American soldiers are being killed in Iraq as vengeance from God for protecting a country that harbors gays. The church, which is not affiliated with a larger denomination, is made up mostly of Phelps' children, grandchildren and in-laws.

The church members carried signs and shouted things such as “God hates fags” and “God hates you."

About 10 church members protested near Smyrna United Methodist Church and nearly 20 stood outside the National Guard Armory in Ashland City. Members have demonstrated at other soldier funerals across the nation.

The funerals were for Staff Sgt. Asbury Fred Hawn II, 35, in Smyrna and Spc. Gary Reese Jr., 22, in Ashland City. Both were members of the Tennessee National Guard.

Hundreds of Smyrna and Ashland City residents and families of other soldiers turned out at both sites to counter the message the Westboro Baptist members brought.

So many counterdemonstrators were gathered in Ashland City that police, sheriff’s deputies and state troopers were brought in to control traffic and protect the protesters.

The church members held protesting permits, and counterprotesters in Smyrna turned their backs to Westboro Baptist members until time expired on the protest permits.

“If they were protesting the government, I might even join them," Danny Cotton, 56, said amid cries of “get out of our town” and “get out of our country."

“But for them to come during the worst time for this family _ it’s just wrong."

Wow...that’s a frightening news article...
Just a reminder - PLEASE don’t base your views on Christianity on scenarios like that. While the Bible does speak of homosexuality as a sin, God does not hate any person - He might hate sin, but not people. And those protestors were not acting as Christ teaches the church to act. They have forgotten that there are many other sins (that I’m sure they’ve committed) that are just as offensive to God. That article is a great example of how the media gets a hold of a fanatical, unbiblical example of “christians” to make the religion as a whole look aweful. But as you saw - the church was really just a family deal - not a lot of followers - that should show you something about what they are teaching.

OK...TOWER OF BABEL -
I remind you that you cannot take stories out of context.

The Tower of Babel happened shortly after the great flood of Noah and the ark. God commanded Noah and his family to “be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth” (Genesis 9:1). So God gave specific instructions to man to make a lot of babies and not to stay in one place but to fill the earth.

So a few years down the line, the population had grown significantly and a group of people decided they did NOT want to spread out over the world like God had commanded them. So they decided to “build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth”(Genesis 11:4).

Two important things to note here:

1) the word “heavens” (notice it’s plural) in the original Hebrew means “region above the earth; place of the stars, sky, air." So - they weren’t building a tower to “Heaven” (i.e. God’s dwelling place) but to the sky. And why were they doing it? NOT so they could get to “Heaven” (i.e. God’s dwelling place) but to “make a name for [them]selves."

2) What they did was in direct DISobedience to God. God had commanded man to multiply and FILL the earth. They said they were building so that they would “not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."

Now let’s notice the Lord’s reply - He never says He’s scared or afraid of man. Look -
“The Lord said, 'If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.'"(Genesis 11:6)
God is not afraid - He’s trying to protect them! He had a reason for commanding them to fill they earth and they weren’t doing it. So to help the process, God “confused” their language (gave them all different languages) and He himself had to “scatter them over the face of the whole earth."(Genesis 11:9).

And finally - there a lot of ruins that have not been discovered all over the world - and besides - God stopped them before they even got started. But - if you must know, the ancient civilization of Babylon (notice a connection between that name and Babel?) is where it was theorized that that took place.

So Weasel - please know your facts before you judge. It will keep you from misquoting the Bible. God never said He was threatened and He never said anything about them building the tower to Heaven.

There was this atheist walking in the woods when all of a sudden a bear starts to chase him. The atheist starts to flee but the bear catches up to him and pins him down. Just as the bear is about to swipe the atheist with his claw the atheist says Dear God help me. Right then and there the bear is frozen and God speaks 'All of these years you did not believe in me, but now when you need me you believe in me. You want to become Christian and want my help.'. The atheist says to God ' you’re right God that wouldn’t be right, but could you make the bear Christian.'. God says 'alright'. The bear unfreezes and kneels down in front of the atheist. The bear puts his hands together and prays 'Thank you Lord for what I am about to receive'.

Phil, since you seem to know alot about the bible, maybe you could answer this for me, and fel free to correct me in any part you disagree with. If adam and eve were the only people on earth, and they had cain, abel, and some daughters, if this is true, then how are we here? Do you see what i mean? If there are only a set number of people to breed with that would result in inbreeding, and the amount of inbreeding that seems to have taken place would result in massive deterioration of our genetics, which would either render us sterile, or make us horrible mutants. So it seems unlikely that we started from 2 people, but the bible says that we did.

Oh, and weasel, no i dont know where you could find quake 1 for the computer, all i’ve been able to find is quake 1 for my psp. Sorry i couldn’t be of more help.

Hey Quakeless...that’s a great question. I’m no geneticist but I do know a little bit.

The way I understand it, a mutation, genetically speaking, is a random change in genetic material that results from an error in replication of DNA. Mutations can be beneficial, neutral, or harmful. They are usually associated with being harmful because those are most obvious.

A good way to look at why insest causes generally negative mutations today is by looking at a blank cassette tape (I know nobody uses cassettes any more, but we all know what they are right?)...Anyway....if you make a copy of an original cassette you will more than likely have a pretty good sounding copy without many, if any, blips. But let’s say you take your copy and make a copy. Then take that copy and make a copy and so on and so on. Whereas the chances of any errors resulting from copying the original to a blank are very low, chances that an error (or errors) will result from making a 1,000,000th copy from the 999,999th copy are quite high.

It’s all about genetic purity...Adam and Eve’s children (assuming Adam and Eve are indeed the first humans and were created by God) would be incredibly pure, genetically speaking - there would be hardly any room for mutation because there are hardly any deviations in the DNA. On down the familiy tree, those deviations become a lot more noticeable and that is why mutation is likely when breeding between close family members occurs now.
