Well in effect anyone who enters the contest is plagiarizing, unless the entire signature is actually their own work. In order for it to not be plagiarism the images would have to be so altered that it didn’t resemble the original. Or at least “substantially altered”.

Sadly I agree. But without renders and images we would not have SOTW because would all be stealing lol.

But most signatures are “substantially altered” like the one in my signature now.

well i say make it fair, if the person doesnt do anything to edit the original (edits iclude crops, adding text, adding other images, etc) then they can be kicked out for the week, but if they edit it in the least then let them in, i edit mine as much as paint will let me to keep it good.

Why is there such an uproar over this?

Gif animations only further a person’s creativity... And if a guy can use paint and nearly win a competition, than it’s VERY good for them.

Correct me if I’m wrong... But isn’t the SOTW competition all about showing your creative side? If you ban certain things from the competition you’re limiting that creativity and personally, I don’t want to have anything to do with something that does that.

I think that makes sense. I mean they’re signatures...I don’t think anyone is planning to take them commercial.

My earlier post was just to point out that if people are saying “it’s not all your work”...well that’s true of everyone in these competitions. Except signatures like PS3’s current one...and then everyone’s complaining about it.

I am going to try and make my Signitures more sophisticated so that peoples votes are not swayed by humour.

You do not alter the picture to make it something that YOU actually did. Anyone can take someone else’s picture and add text to it. How is that fair? When we work for hours thinking of a design and working on it. And then you take a couple of pictures and through them together and end up almost winning.

the solution is simple.

Keep this sotw running as it is and have Photoshop comp starting also, in which you can have different themes like week one is pop out comp, week two is a sig comp, week three is the theme of out of bounds and so on. much like they do on worth 1000

Sooo...the picture of that house in your Halloween sig you actually took yourself? With your own camera?

The point I’m trying to make is yes some people are coming up with great designs and spending a lot of time and effort on it. But if the issue is “taking someone else’s picture”, very few (if any) of the signatures feature content that belongs exclusively to the designer.

Quick suggestion

Why not let entrants use ImageReady? It’s made by Adobe, and it basically IS Photoshop. And it is free. Or it was for me at least.

Well I thought, since people are geing uptight about the variaty of entries and their sources, why don’t we have a photoshop only comp where we are not limited to sig sized images but rather full size images of digital trickery.

The themes would be based on a object posted, various aspects of photoshop manipulation, say stuff like out of bounds image, texture mapping, gradients, object manipulation and even signatures.

All would be limited to photoshop or paint shop pro users and would be voted on by MVC.

This would prove a challenge suitable to those with knowledge on photoshop and those who didn’t will learn stuff cause there would be some links to tutorials posted at the start of each comp with info on how to do the task at hand, albeit less creatively and basic.

There are so many things that photoshop can do and it would give the more tallented experianced photoshop users something to shine with

Upload the image to one of those then paste the [img] code into Movie codec post
