instead of it just being a wallpaper we should make it say “VOTE FOR THE SIG OF THE WEEK” and have lots of graphics and make it colorful. the winner gets their wallpaper posted in the next SOTW

what about it?

That’s actually very similar to what I was thinking for the SOTW#50, minus the wallpaper part.

I personally would like to stick with sigs, with one contest going on at a time.
The wallpaper idea has been started by other members before..it just didn’t get anywhere.
You’re more then welcome to start it up again.

I was wondering if there was any feedback on making the SOTW entry time officially longer.

In reality it tends to go a few days past the “deadline” anyway, whether because I’m not around to start the voting thread or because of a lack of entries.

Given that participation isn’t fantastic at the moment, how does extending the entry deadlines sound? Or will that drag the unpopular competitions on too long?

If we were to extend deadlines I wouldn’t want to extend the amount of entry days past 8.

A quick turnaround is good, but only if people are waiting on the next SOTW. Right now members aren’t frequenting the site as often and sometimes don’t even see the SOTW entry until its over.

Any thoughts?

I’m going to try 7 days for entries and stick to 3 days for voting.
We’ll see how it goes.

I like the shorter turn aroundsgrin

Perhaps we might run overlapping competitions?

where the comencement of another starts as the other is up for voting?

just an idea.

By making the competition longer for entries when theres little interest you are really just dragging it out. if traffic is low, making it a longer submission time wont boost entries. Shortening the entry time will however as it may give people who are waiting for the next theme they may like an insentive to hang around or boost the number of entries as there is less waiting time.

If we only get around 3 entries, making it 7-8 days for submission will just drag things out..you probably wont get any more entries as those who wanted to enter will have already.

By shortening the time, it speeds things up, gives people more insentive to get off their butts and do something for it and if they miss out, theres always the next comp. this way will also see more popularity as the themes would be cycled through quicker sparking interest from those who are waiting for a specific theme and it also will give us more google exposure as there would be more SOTW threads for mvc meaning more hits on the search engine.

Just my opinion.

shorter entry times would be best based on the current situation...IMO.

Ok, this is what I want to try:
5 days for the entries with the voting happening at the same time.

The set up:
(example)

SOTW #67 runs at the same time as voting for SOTW #66 and voting for the new theme of SOTW #68.

To make it simple we can have entries and voting all start and end at the same time.

To start this system right away, I’ll just choose a theme instead of waiting for the usually voting.

So we’ll give this a try and see how it goes.

The satisfaction of sweet sweet victory.

There are no prizes, except for getting your winning sig in the Hall of Fame.

The winner of SOTW#50 got their banner put on the theme voting page.

Given the poor turnout at the moment, I’m thinking I might give the sotw a two week vacation after #76 and start it up again in September.

Edit:
SOTW# 76 with be the last until September.
Theme voting will resume on Aug 30th.

I will be gone until Aug 30th as well.

Not sure really what I should do with this (sotw#80 and future).

I think everyone has a say in what happens to the sotw.

So...?

I’m not going to waste my time if there’s no interest at all in the sotw.

I will come on occasionally but will not be pursuing any more competitions until there’s enough people interested.

Feel free to comment here or send me a PM if you so desire.

Hopefully that’s not the reason other people didn’t enter (which would be quite ironicsmiley).

Anyway wolfy, no need to explain yourself.
I’m certainly not looking for apologies from anyone. And I don’t take some personal offense from the lack of interest.

The sotw exists to serve a purpose, and if no one is interested then it makes sense to pull the plug....at least for now anyway.
