not much of a shonen guy as well, more of a seinen (something targeted for older audiences, like Lucky Star, Suzumiya, CLANNAD) person

The best out of the 3 is Bleach.But I would suggest Gundam 00 or Afro Samurai.

One Piece is the least emo of the three.

But also has the saddest character background stories at the same time.

Bleach and Naruto are emo? Since when? Maybe characters like Sauske are, but there supposed to be.

A lot of people can relate to these “emo” characters. I find them less pathetic than brutes who only answer questions with their fists, but they seem to be popular too. Ugh... /rant

But, you could always go for the anime that basically pioneered Dragonball and it’s similar successors, Fist of the North Star. Old anime, and violent, and while I’ve never seen it, I’d say it’s one to try and watch it because it’s a classic.

Whether or not it’s good, that’s up to you.

But if that doesn’t suit you, I think Bleach is the better of the two. More mature in content, except Shippuden I don’t actually know about. Plus it’s very strict to the DBZ formula, almost to the T. Thing is, DBZ has more western appeal than Bleach does, since Bleach is heavy on Japanese imagery.

Elfen Lied I really enjoyed, but Berserk is still my favorite. I highly recommend it to anyone that hasn’t seen it.
