Slight edge over speed, and the fact that a Sand shield wouldn’t work well against Ash, it’d be similar to a water going through a sponge; it’ll hold some back but not all.

Gaara loses badly. He’s far too outclassed by speed. As seen when he was fighting against both Rock Lee and Sasuke, he tends to have a little bit of trouble dealing with mediocre speed feats. Take speed faster then anything witnissed in Naruto to date and combine that with Spiritual Pressure that’s likely on the scale of 4 Tailed Kyuubi’s chakra, then Gaara is screwed.

Nobody in Naruto is strong enough to take on anything more then 3rd or 4th seat Shinigami.
