Guts has faced and beaten opponents more powerful than Clare... therefore, by the rules most commonly used in this forum, Guts wins.

Gut’s should win this would with some difficulty. The real problem facing characters from Claymore is apart from a few of the awakened beings, their overall durability is pathetic.

When Clare goes awakened, then Guts dies, Guts never did anything all that amazing even in the manga. I kind of got really dissapointed of the Berserk anime and manga. Prolly 1 of the worst fighters in the anime/manga sword weilding fighters verse.

I finished watching Claymore was just reading the manga of Claymore, way much more intense and Clare is surely more awesome than Guts

You speak Blasphemy sir. Gut’s being the worst fighter? Are you kidding me? His only weakness really is that he is plainly human... but for a human, he’s gone into the realm of soloing behemoth sized threats that would destroy a city on their on. He’s considered a master swordsman just on speed and dexterity alone.

Another point is that Gut’s sword would most likely break hers. Only if she actually “awakens” can this even be a fight. Honestly, Awakened Clare reminds me of the Moth/Fairy apostle that Guts killed, in terms of speed. Would be a good fight though for sure.

There is a lot of biased votes for Guts. It seems almost unfair....

Guts a bad fighter? You’re talking about a guy who kills demons three times his size with pure skill and determination and don’t even get me started about when his berserk armor kicks in.

3 times? Try 20+ his size. Remember the Count (slug apostle)? And then there was Grunbeld, who could turn into a dragon fully armored with pure corundum scales.

Clare has movement speed on Guts in her awakened state for sure, but I honestly haven’t seen beat Gut’s swing speed, especially when he’s in the Berserker armor... I mean, no one could even see his sword anymore. Clare may match it, but there is nothing in the anime (haven’t read the manga) to suggest that she can swing faster than him. And then you have to take in mind his determination to do absolutely what ever it takes to win, no matter the cost. The last edge that Guts has, and it is really the only talent he’s had since birth, is his uncanny ability to avoid death.

I’ll be the first to say I’m biased... hell, I love Guts. He’s the best damn character to grace the anime world as far as I’m concerned. He’s not the most powerful of them, not by a long shot... but for a character that is merely human and has absolutely nothing that enhances their strength (no, his armor doesn’t make him stronger, it just makes it so he no longer feels pain which allows him to push himself to his natural limits) or anything else for that matter, he conquered threats and challenges that armies couldn’t stand against. He’s earned my respect, Guts ftw.

A human? There is no human that can do that. It’s purely boy’s wet dreams of fantasy. Nothing more. But the manga is aswome so I have nothing against it.

Guts is indeed human, but you are right in that no human can do what he can do without being enhanced in some way. Although Guts trains about as much a Goku, haha. I didn’t say he was a realistic depiction of peak human, I’m saying that through all his suffering and drive to survive, he has been able to push himself well beyond human limits without any outside help. More or less, he has completely and utterly earned his strength and victories.

While the manga is great, if you want to read a realistic manga about a human pushing himself beyond his limits, you should read Shamo or Holy Land.

Not looking for all around realism really, I’m more enthralled by the byronic hero type that Guts is. The man is carrying the fucking world on his shoulders and none of the other characters get it. The amount of suffering he’s gone through, it’s a wonder he hasn’t already killed himself, especially with the continuing pain and pressure that Caska puts on him, taunting his sanity. The only sleep he usually gets is from passing out after fighting evil shit all night long, the poor guy.

Being that it is an extremely gritty adult fantasy manga, I enjoy the supernatural aspect which allows him to have to over come even greater conceived challenges.

dammit that I have to wait til sept 25 for the next chapter to come out.
